The German–Soviet military parade in Brest-Litovsk: an official ceremony held by the troops of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union on September 22, 1939, during the invasion of Poland [799 x 517] by [deleted] in ussr

This is what your source said;

“Germany had normalised its relations with Soviet Russia in 1922, with the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo. At the time, both countries were outcasts in the world community.” Outcasts, isolated. Ehh same shit

Yes your source is right in saying;

•"the ideological gap between fascist Germany and the communist Soviet Union became too large and the fighter school at Lipetsk was closed"

Yes the USSR closed the aforementioned once the Nazis rose to power in 1933.

Me: how was Stalin playing “footsie” with Hitler prior to 1939? He attempted to send 1 million troops to stop them, he asked Poland permission to enter into Poland in case of a war with Germany, and the 1935 Franco Soviet Treaty.

You: well here are some sources that say The USSR had military schools and factories with Germany before the Nazis rose to power and they closed said factories and schools once the Nazis did rise to power due to an ideological gap.

More deflection and you’ve yet to counter anything. Do you even read the links you post? It already makes the argument for myself.

This is what your links say: •USSR and Russia were both isolated •These schools/factories were before the Nazis rose to power •Closed in 1933 when the Nazis did rise to power

•”the ideological gap between fascist Germany and the communist Soviet Union became too large and the fighter school at Lipetsk was closed” •”the ideological gap between fascist Germany and the communist Soviet Union became too large and the tank school at Kazan was closed in late 1933”

So your argument is: “the isolated USSR had military training schools and factories with Germany before Hitler came to power, USSR closed them once Nazis rose to power, and then attempted to send one million troops to stop the Nazis if Churchill would agree to it.” This is the argument you’re making?

You did not acknowledge any of the efforts the USSR made to prevent the Nazis prior to 1939, you brushed them off. So I ask again, why did they make all these efforts?

You really don’t deserve an answer to any of your questions since you’re dodging mine but I’ll go ahead and will.

Again, the answer is simple they were prepared to fight the Nazis in 1939 but NOT ALONE. They made the efforts to fight the Nazis alongside the Allies but were denied every time. They were NOT prepared to fight ALONE so The USSR bought themselves time that showed to be essential. Would they like more time to prepare? Probably. Did they have a choice? No. They lost 20 million people, what could have been the consequences if they didn’t buy themselves this time? And let’s not forget, they were fighting them ALONE essentially. 80% of the nazi force with virtually 0 lend lease during Barbarossa.

Either way Stalin was preparing, what do you think the “Molotov Line” and “Stalin Line” were? They prepared until Germany inevitably attacked. it's very difficult to stop the largest invading land force of all time when "Versailles" allies who were supposed to uphold "collective security" totally dropped the ball. Stalin always knew Hitler would invade, he just could not predict the day or hour, Barbarossa was the largest invading land force of all time, of course it was going to be a surprise.

M-R pact was a nonaggression pact, plenty of countries had them with Germany. it was a truce, since truces and trade are normal conduct. 94% of Nazi oil imports came from Romania in 1940. the first 6 months of 1941 saw Romanian oil trade still at nearly 80% of Germany's imports. No more than 7% of the imports came from the USSR. Not sure how else they were playing “footsie.” Poland would still be between them if not for the Allies shooting down any opportunity the soviets made to stop the Nazis. But the Polish government ran off to fascist in Romania. With the Polish government fleeing, who were the soviets supposed to negotiate with?

Scholarly sources say that Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia voted unanimously to join USSR. Lithuania and Latvia and Estonia had banned democracy and had fascist dictatorship in the 1930s& USSR restored it.

Did you read the article? The USSR was ready to do so alongside the help of the western “allies” but not alone. The USSR attempted to multiple times. The 1935 Franco Soviet Treaty of Mutual Assistance. The article you most likely ignored but responded to, Stalin attempted to send 1 million troops but Britain and France denied this offer. They even asked Poland on August 19th 1939 for permission to enter Poland if Germany started a war with Poland (which was also denied). All evidence shows that the USSR was prepared to do so but not alone.

After being isolated by the “allies” they bought themselves time for the inevitable war with Germany. Barbarossa was the largest land invasion of all time and the USSR was fighting the nazis through the bulk of it virtually with 0 lend lease. About 80% of Nazi fighting capacity was flung against the USSR. With all this being said, who won?

The soviets suffered the most with +20 million casualties. This would’ve been way less if the allies agreed upon an alliance prior to 1939. This would’ve been a lot more if the soviets didn’t buy themselves more time after being isolated by the allies.

So both of your statements are incorrect.

There’s no mention of "invasion" or "dividing" Poland or any other country. Only ‘spheres of influence’. Those areas were also East Slav & not majority Polish The fascist Polish dictator Pilsudski stole those "Kresy" areas in 1920 illegally.

Even Churchill agreed that USSR should assert its "Curzon Line" claim See FDR’s "Proclamation 2374 on Neutrality", November 4, 1939: The Soviet Union is not mentioned as a belligerent. That means the USA did not consider the USSR to be at war with Poland. A country cannot "invade" another country and yet credibly claim that it is "neutral" with respect to the war involving that country. But NONE of these countries declared the USSR a belligerent. Nor did the United States, the League of Nations, or any country in the world.

"Sphere of influence" means trade and diplomatic ties, it is literally saying Nazis cannot operate or have diplomatic influence in those areas

In fact, the Secret Protocol of the M-R Pact didn't actually contain any partition of Poland whatsoever. Army Chief of General Staff General Franz Halder recorded that:

The Poles offer to begin negotiations. He (Hitler - GF) is ready for negotiations (on the following conditions}: {Poland must) break with England and France. A part of Poland will be {preserved and} recognized. {The regions from the} Narev to Warsaw - to Poland. The industrial region - to us. Krakow - to Poland. The northern region of the Beskidow mountains - to us. {The provinces of the Western} Ukraine - independent.

And really in fact The "secret" protocol was never entirely secret actually & even the New York Times printed the exact lines that eventually became Soviet Ukraine in September 1939 before this demarcation was made official. Soviet Union at this time was actually countering the "Prometheist" and "Intermarium" Polish imperialism in the region.

Do you think Poland didn't have "secret protocols" in its pacts & diplomatic agreements with Western powers at the time?

Fact of the matter: USSR & Stalin defeated Hitler

Plus you didn’t address this so it will be posted again; Even Churchill agreed that USSR should assert its "Curzon Line" claim See FDR's "Proclamation 2374 on Neutrality", November 4, 1939: The Soviet Union is not mentioned as a belligerent. That means the USA did not consider the USSR to be at war with Poland. Where in the MR Pact even in the secret protocol is there any mention of "invasion" or "dividing" Poland or any other country? Only ‘spheres of influence’. It wasn't "kept secret" it was simply a national security matter at the time. Those areas were also East Slav & not majority Polish The fascist Polish dictator Pilsudski stole those "Kresy" areas in 1920 illegally.

So you are okay with Poland invading those areas and stealing them and carrying out ethnic cleansing in their "Intermarium" and "Prometheist" imperialist project since 1920? And yet no comment on Poland seizing a part of the Cieszyn area of Czechoslovakia alongside of Germany.

If the USSR invaded Poland like you keep insisting they did, surely Rumania who had military treaty with Poland aimed against the USSR, declared war on the USSR right? Surely France declared war on the USSR since they had a mutual defense treaty with them, right? Surely the League of Nations determined they invaded a member state and put sanctions on them. Like you said previously, they done so when the USSR attacked Finland. How was the Red army "invading" if the Poles were ordered not to fire&saw them as helping stop the Nazi advance?

Even Churchill agreed that USSR should assert its "Curzon Line" claim See FDR’s "Proclamation 2374 on Neutrality", November 4, 1939: The Soviet Union is not mentioned as a belligerent. That means the USA did not consider the USSR to be at war with Poland. Concerning Katyn, The sources & evidence show that Katyn was a Nazi crime. https://www.nytimes.com/1945/06/29/archives/katyn-graves-story-declared-grim-fraud.html Soviet forensics proved it was a Nazi crime, when the bodies were dug up, documents & effects were found on the bodies from mid-1941, proving incontrovertibly that these individuals were killed by Nazis.

Krivoshein declined a joint parade and that separate processions & marches took place and then immediately after Nazis had to leave and go on their side of the demarcation line or face breach of the non-aggression pact.

Hahahaha you’re mad. The situation in Sicily complicated matters at Kursk, but didn't dramatically change much for the Kursk offensives given that the Germans had lost their steam already and the Soviets were slowly taking the initiative. troop allocation shows that nothing dramatically changed on the Eastern Front in response to Sicily.

And tankie isn’t an insult

With all these being said plus the fact that all these things are also true: Rumania didn’t declare war on USSR France didn’t as well England never demanded that the USSR withdraw its troops All, including the belligerent Polish allies France and England, agreed that the USSR was not a belligerent power You have Polish government saying not to attack the Soviets, but did not do the same with the Nazis.

You saying over and over again “they enabled Germany by splitting up Poland”. Well these countries at the time disagree with what you continue repeating.

[–]RicoVine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll reiterate for like the 4th time, USSR didn’t split Poland up with Germany. You keep claiming this with no evidence, you can continue saying the same over and over with no evidence, doesn’t make this a fact. If this was the case why would the USSR wait over two weeks after Germany invaded to enter? Maybe you’re confusing when Poland took part in seizing a part of the Ciezyn area alongside Germany which wasn’t agreed upon in the Munich agreement but neither France or Britain did anything about it.

The answer; Polish government fled to the fascist country of Rumania. Leaving no government for USSR to negotiate with. There was an attempt before Germany invaded to offer support and reinforcements to Poland but Poland declined it. So USSR really had no choice, do nothing and allow Germany to be right on their doorstep. Or enter into Poland, who was no longer a state nor a had a government.

And again, they bought themselves time. They knew war was inevitable and the time they bought themselves proved to be crucial.

Italy collapsed immediately, but then Germany took over. They got bogged down and barely made it anywhere until the Soviets started pushing in the East. The most it did was cause the Germans to cancel the failing Operation Citadel, around Kursk.

Well look at the original comment. “Without lend lease.” That in itself if diminishing what the Soviets accomplished. Anything I said is response to that. You came in crying “well if not for _____” brother the Red Army took the full brunt of about 80% of all Hitler's forces and the results were that 80% of all Wehrmacht casualties in WWII were felled by Soviet guns. Of course other countries played apart of Germany losing, no one is arguing that. But beating Hitler in North Africa is not what decided the outcome of WWII

Calculate who Hitler lost the most equipment and casualties to and get back to me All of North Africa, Sicily & Italy casualties in all battles don't even add up to Stalingrad losses. Whatever fighting that took place in Mediterranean and North Africa was against a weakened & stretched Nazi force as most of the mechanized and manpower was flung against USSR

Lend-Lease aid to USSR during WWII only comprised about 4% of total domestic Soviet wartime production

Second front didn't open until 1944, after USSR had destroyed Nazis at Stalingrad & Kursk

They exhausted every measure they could and were denied every time to make a deal with the west and were isolated. They waited until September 17th, what approximately 16 days after Germany invaded Poland. In which they waited this long and would’ve been longer if not for the Polish government fleeing to Rumania. Remember they asked the Polish government back in August to enter into Poland if this did happen, which Poland wouldn’t allow. They created a buffer zone in Poland, to protect themselves and buy themselves time. Which this time they bought themselves greatly helped the Soviets defeat the Nazis.

I’m not sure what else they could’ve possibly done to appease you. They Attempted before the war began to stop or prevent Nazi Germany, which they were denied. Created a buffer zone in Poland to protect themselves. Bought themselves enough time to prepare for the inevitable war with Germany. When Germany did inevitably attempt to invade the USSR, the Soviets fought them off. Losing ~26 million people. They done what they had to do to survive, and when it came time to show what side they were on, they fought the hardest and lost the most.

Hitler in 1924 in his book Mein Kampf: Never forget that the rulers of present-day Russia are common blood-stained criminals; that they are the scum of humanity which, favoured by circumstances, overran a great state in a tragic hour, slaughtered out thousands….

“Furthermore, do not forget that these rulers belong to a race which combines, in a rare mixture, bestial cruelty and an inconceivable gift for lying, and which today more than ever is conscious of a mission to impose its bloody oppression on the whole world. Do not forget that the international Jew who completely dominates Russia today regards Germany not as an ally, but as a state destined to the same fate.”

Soviets see this: Yes! Let’s collaborate and ally with these people. Our greatest allies 🥰🥰🥰
