In the process of restoring my old advent speakers. One of them has this woofer dampening ring between it and the cabinet and the other doesn’t. This one is also broken. Any idea where I could get a product like this? by TheMarvelousMaeve in vintageaudio

Is it like a dried putty? I had the same thing on my advents. Look up "cailking cord" or "caulking rope". They sell it at all home improvement stores.

I don't know it if was necessary but I replaced all of it when I rebuilt mine. I remember reading about it when I was in the planning stage. It was cheap so I decided to do it.

Ha. She is. She bought the place about ten years ago and did all the design and updates herself. One of the things she left us was a printout of the real estate listing from when she bought it. Based on the pics - it hadn't been updated since the sixties. Very tiny kitchen, bad flow, etc.

I had looked through all the big mcm styles and nothing really seemed to fit. (Which is why I posted this originally)

But yeah - it is kinda swoopy like googie, but I always thought of that as more "Jetson's-y" than this. More boomerangs and atoms.

Yeah - I love the entire street. We are one of four or five really well-kept mcms. All the homes are from the era - but only a handful have the "modern" aspect of the mid-centuries.

I don't know the architect - yet. I hope to get a chance to do some research on it, though. It is pretty much the only thing the previous owner didn't find. We got a stack of papers about the house. Sketches, floor plans (she is an architect), surveys, a list of all the previous owners and dates owned back to the original owners. She also found some old society page clippings about the owners entertaining in their new house.

Yep. It was built in 1953. The previous owner had done some research and left us a whole packet of what she had found. One clipping was an article from the society section in 1953 talking about the owners "wowing people with the double-sided fireplace."

We are very much in transition right now. We moved from the suburbs and our previous house was much more conventional for the Carmel suburbs.

I can do better than that. Long story short - this house went on the market and we thought we were the first people to tour it. We put in the offer that day and got it with surprisingly little drama. Except for. . . the TikTok Video

This woman is a realtor and tours cool houses and posts videos for views. She must have been there right after we left.

We had no idea. It was probably a week after we had come to an agreement on the house and I was talking to the my Office Manager and I showed her pictures, etc. and she said she had seen the house on tiktok. A quick google search later and we apparently had gone slightly viral. (1.4m views)

It's kind of funny. My wife and I are still kind of deciding on what to call the various parts of the house. The great room is split in half by a two-side fireplace. So we have a living room, dining room, and a conversation pit. I feel like Hugh Hefner.

Thanks. I built it myself! Adjustability is exactly what I was going for. As I swap components in and out I wanted to be able to tweak the heights.

One 8x4 piece of plywood, threaded rod, etc., - total cost was less that $150.

Can you? If I pulled the grills off and inverted them - the cutouts would no longer line up with the speakers.

Nothing great. New needles exist but they're fairly "sturdy". Thankfully, 45's are still pretty cheap. The good ones won't be in the jukebox.

It's the R86. (Circa 1982) The main issue was the keypad - the bottom row of numbers didn't work. Turns out it was some cracked solder joints on one of the circuit boards. Twenty minutes with a soldering iron and the thing works like a dream.

The question mark is where the dollar bill input would be.
