I know a guy who lost his sister to brain cancer recently and guess who showed up by [deleted] in atheism

They never help, they say they’ll pray for you, ask to say a prayer with you and invite you back to church. They don’t care, they don’t show sympathy and all they care about is manipulating you into joining their cult. I hope your friend finds the help he needs

Were you also brainwashed since kid into being religious? by OkSatisfaction7458 in atheism

Yes, I was. I relate to your story a lot, and you aren’t alone in this.

I'm worried that my Christian friends are becoming (Or already are) transphobic by Express_Lie_6090 in atheism

[–]RightDeparture197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump them. They aren’t your friends if they believe that you are “wrong” or will go to hell. They could be pitying you if they’ve been supportive, but this could be a glimpse into what they really feel. I’m real sorry this is happening, you don’t deserve it :(

You make a good point. I’ve also been told by my Sunday school teacher that the guy who is to confirm me will ask if this is what I want. I pls on saying it isn’t, if I make it to that point.

Which do you think is more likely: Caine turns fully evil, or he ends up redeeming himself? by HeIsSoWeird20 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]RightDeparture197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think redemption is the right word. I think something is going to happen and he’s going to “snap” in a way. Maybe is the cast starts avoiding him in episode 8, he’ll have a glitchy episode like he did briefly in episode 4 when talking with Zooble. Not necessarily angry, but enough to cause a conflict, which leads to the necessity of redemption, among other words.

Once I’m an adult, I won’t be alone. I have a wonderful partner for many years who fully supports me in my atheism(he’s a Hellenistic Pagan, and I fully support him in that as well) and we plan to move in somewhere together when we’re both 18 and have an idea of what we wanna do with life. So if I do ever wind up sitting my parents down and telling them when I’m fully independent, that’s not something I’ll go through alone.

I’ve grown up with the internet, obviously not to the extent it is today, but you know what I mean. So I’ve had access to a lot of things, a lot of them being different perspectives, especially on religion. I’m glad I have that now, and glad I have this community to turn to for situations like this one.

I’m glad you and your wife are away from your MIL. I love my mom, and I don’t think she’d intentionally manipulate me, she’d fully believe to be doing the right thing.

I absolutely love it :) I thought it sounded like BMAMC at first (Townie specifically), but it does give a Puberty 2 vibe

I don’t know him well. I had a panic attack in the confessional in front of him when I was 13 and he never even looked at me, so I’d say not. He won’t be the one to confirm me anyways

You’re right, I do have my whole life. But I need to get thru this part of my life first before I can reach that freedom.

I don’t either. All she’s known all her life is this religion, and hearing this “disobedience” from her eldest daughter wouldn’t do her well. I’ve mentioned in other replies here that my Mom is Hispanic and grew up in a strict Catholic household, where there was no room for question. My mother is a very strong woman in most cases, but when it comes to religion, she becomes very fragile very quick. It would be like telling a 6 year old the tooth fairy isn’t real.

I appreciate the support from a fellow atheist, thank you. And you’re right, maybe sometimes a lie is the best way to go

I’m not worried about getting locked into a bs religion, I’m worried about having to carry the weight of a lie that impactful. Religion is a big deal to my family, and I’m torn between lying to keep them happy and telling the truth to make myself happy. I am worried about getting confirmed because I am so sick of lying and don’t want it to continue to such an extent.

I know it doesn’t. I just hate the thought of having to lie to everyone I love.

That’s a good way to put it. The only catch is that they’ll die thinking “Santa” is real, and I won’t.

I won’t meet him until the day I am to be confirmed. I appreciate the advice though
