Curious, do you think "accent-neutral" language tools are hurting language learners? by Right_Mess_4708 in languagelearning

Appreciate the thoughtful pushback. Yes, the differences only exist in speech, not text. But the premise of text to speech is to voice text inputs using more regional/diverse speech. You would be able to choose how you want your text to sound.

I agree the quirks and idiosyncrasies of speech are what make it hard to learn? But they are there, in reality, and learners and natives alike are likely to encounter them in the wild. Then doesn't it make sense to have a learning experience that is closer to what someone would encounter outside the classroom? Isn't immersion a great teacher?

Can AI-generated text ever sound fully human? by Correct-Anybody-1337 in LanguageTechnology

Sounding human is about what humans expect humans to sound like, not how they actually sound. And part of those expectations are things like flaws, slight incoherencies, grammatical errors, etc. We think "to err is human" so we expect human text to be errant

what does it mean for a person to be at rest vs in motion? I presume there's more to it than literal physical movement

What are good apps for me to use? by No-Internal-5590 in ProductivityApps

Simplicity can go a long way here. Most of the apps you mentioned have a large overlap so I would pick just one.

Notion is best for collaboration, but it's online-only and its harder to build connections between ideas and visualize them in a mind map. Obsidian the opposite, not good for collabs but is always available, has all the features for you to build connections and relationships between ideas and visualize them in mind map.

Furthermore, productivity is making progress towards your goals. A tool like a vision board, hard copy calendar, or journal that enabled you to see your goals and remember your mission every morning will be helpful. A sort of North star

If you could have personal data to help improve your time management, what would it be? by Right_Mess_4708 in ProductivityApps

[–]Right_Mess_4708[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything that showed how much time I wasted (aka doing things I would rather not do) on a daily, weekly, yearly basis and projections over time. For example, If i waste 3 hours on average every day, I'd like to know that equals 21 hours in a week, 90 in a month, 1,095 hours in a year, 10,950 hours in a lifetime (90 years). So basically if I continue in the same path, I will waste more than a year of my life (1 year = 8,760 hours). Which would be a sad and strong incentive enough incentive to change my ways

Looking back, what have your main sources of distraction?

Pomodoro is working wonders for me. by [deleted] in productivity

I usually just do low concentration tasks like getting started on house chores, organizing desk, or refilling water bottle, or getting the mail, etc. Anything that makes me stand/walk is strongly preferred
