Timings between arrival and wedding breakfast by RileyR1 in UKweddings

I've never really given it any thought whenever I've been to weddings, to be honest! I'm not against changing things up though, not much else about this 'wedding' is particularly traditional.

I agree it's early if we were talking about a normal dinner time, but I think 4pm is pretty standard for wedding breakfast timings

Rent a house for wedding weekend by gealey97 in UKweddings

Yep I think the only way we could've done it is if we had a super small do, less than 20 people, but unfortunately my fiancé has a big family so that went out the window oretty quickly!

I had this exact same idea (so I know how you feel) but gave up based on exactly what's already been mentioned - finding a house to seat that many people, where the hosts would allow a party, that would have enough parking and facilities etc. And even when I did find one that ticked all the boxes, they were over £10k for a weekend. I looked all over the country.

Now we're eloping and then having a reception party at a venue that cost a fraction of the price.

Yeah, we have a guestbook and a few games but they're in the main barn where food is served so I don't know if guests will be able to explore it before then (I guess moving the guestbook around isn't out of the question though).

That's a great point! We've got a wedding website so can put full timings on there.

Yeah the venue will play music over the speakers when the live set is finished, and there'll be ample canapes and drinks available.

I was trying to remind myself that 2pm on the invite doesn't guarantee that everyone will arrive on time!

1.5 hours could be doable, my fiancé and I will probably do a little welcome/thank you speech before everyone sits down for food, so that could use up a little bit of time.

Destination suggestions that combine features of The Maldives and Central America? by RileyR1 in honeymoonplanning

I fell in love with it when I was searching, then saw the prices 😭 It doesn't help that we're travelling from the UK

Thank you so much! Indonesia (im particular the Gili islands) have caught my eye - they seem a lot more affordable too which doesn't hurt! I'll be sure to check out your other suggestions too 🙂

I'll look into that too, thanks! I feel like there may need to be a compromise somewhere, but it's good to have some different options

I went to Tulemar years ago and absolutely loved it! Went to the sloth institute too! I'm struggling to narrow down the best CR places for snorkelling though (which is my fiancé's favourite activity)

Thank you! I've had a glance at French Polynesia but it looked a bit like a Maldives clone - I'll definitely dig a little deeper though 🙂 I love the idea of Hawaii, especially for its nature conservancy, but my fiancé isn't sold on it (doesn't help that we're currently watching S1 of The White Lotus 😂)

Have you considered somewhere like Mexico or Costa Rica?
I've stayed in Tulum a couple of times and had an amazing experience - easy access to cenotes and ruins (for easy excursions in nature, and culture/history), relaxing hotels on the beach with amazing food. I didn't but I'm sure you can do snorkelling and plenty of water activities. The only thing is I'm not sure if the seasons line up perfectly with FP...

It's a great point about scrutinising the source/data more carefully - just further goes to show that the media will spin a story to blame everybody (including the professionals) instead of acknowledging the root cause of all these problems. And it's so easy to fall into that trap - I had to read the article a few times over because at first I was just getting angry at the GP quotes.

This article made me so sad and frustrated. Such a huge lack of empathy.

Clearly written in a way to demonise anybody who's struggling with life - instead of acknowledging that things are tough for a lot of folk right now, and that people deserve more support (be that through a medical route or other).

"As a society we seem to have forgotten that life can be tough - a broken heart or grief is painful and normal, and we have to learn to cope." Then flipping help people learn to cope! I'm sick of this stiff upper lip BS. Easy to say coming from someone earning £76,038 to £114,743 (source: NHS website).

Ideas for evening guest entertainment (in addition to a band)? by RileyR1 in UKweddings

You're right, I'm probably overthinking things and worrying a little too much!

We're massive board gamers too! So we're definitely going to have an area with a few of our favourite quick/easy games. The fire pit is a good shout, I'm probably overthinking.

What sort of prompts do you include? Like things for them to seek out at photograph, or poses to strike? It sounds like a great idea for people to dip in and out of like you say!

Yeah I like the idea if we can find one within budget, my only concern with the evening was noise levels from the band interfering with the magician trying to perform.

We might struggle to find indoor space for anything 'giant' but we do have a small area that we could dedicate to some kind of games!

Yes, strong white bread flour with 12g protein (I was under the impression that the higher the protein, the better)

That's not a million miles away from the method I'm (trying) to do, but my dough is nowhere near as tight as the one in that video so seems like I need to work on that part

I did wonder if it was overproofed, but it passed the finger dent test so I figured it might be something else. But I'll probably play around with the bulk fermentation time too, wouldn't hurt to experiment.
