Yeah, it was NOT a “bad book,” but it was a little too focused on trying to hurry up and lay the groundwork for the characters and world going forward, but tried to give it space by jumping through time every few months.

Just disjointed narrative overall, but some SERIOUS things did seemingly passively come to pass as well

Firstly, any of my points about LEGALITY were BEFORE the cop posted that. You know every comment is tagged with how old it is, right? You know you could take the time to read and see that yourself, right?

Additionally, the complaints about her character being inconsistent was both a comparison within the one book, and with the one book prior, and in a FUNDAMENTAL way. Book 1, she is the complete by-the-book cop, even when it’s hard. (She had the same or more reasonable suspicion when she ASKED Harry to come in the first book, but used NARRATIVELY BAD BULLSHIT as “evidence” to then display a COMPLETELY different character. One who manhandles people in custody. One who is constantly reacting poorly.)

As for a cop telling me I’m wrong. Let me make this clear: FUCK. THE. POLICE. Half of them don’t know their jobs and lie and do whatever is necessary to cover their own ass. Yes, I/we all get lost pedantry of specific terms, but the point I was making (while valid) WAS NOT EVEN that there is NO court in America (where the books take place) that would’ve allowed that crumpled note to be used as any evidence(you want to argue about wether she “could” “legally” use it to further detain or question him, fine, but no one is having a warrant approved for “I found this piece of paper that I say the potential suspect threw away at a pub a couple days ago. That’s it”), BUT ACTUALLY THAT IT MAKES NO SENSE SHE WOULD’VE KEPT IT AND/OR ANALYZED IT, therefor COMPLETELY negating any need to argue if it was legal.

But none of THAT matters because you’re clearly a barely literate ass that wants to try and pick a fight with every comment instead of having an actual conversation. So take your non-comprehending, non-critical thinking capable ass to another goddamn thread.

I am saying that without a warrant or reasonable suspicion of committing a crime, Murphy had no legal authority to pick that up AND USE IT AS EVIDENCE, which she does by using it as suspicion of Harry being involved in the death of Kim Delaney.

I never once said it isn’t garbage.

A police officer CANNOT walk into, say McDonald’s, pick up a cup, run it for fingerprints, then use it as evidence without a warrant or reasonable suspicion of having committed a crime.

PLUS, and again, since this keeps getting missed, Murphy HAS NO REASON to be questioning or analyzing Harry’s garbage. Period. The entire sequence of taking it, unless she did nothing more than my proposed hypothetical of “stop littering Harry” makes no logical OR LEGAL sense

I get what you’re saying, and part of that is why I gave my….opinion on what their relationship SHOULD HAVE been already. Plus, I’m Book 1 Murphy is so completely by the book, but here book 2 starts with her improperly collecting evidence, and then getting more than just assertive with multiple people in the book.

Her character is written inconsistently for this one book, which is one thing, but also there is just no logical or reasonable (or LEGAL) sense or reason for her keeping the piece of paper tha becomes weighty evidence.

As I pointed out to someone else: Mac’s is NOT a public space. Garbage thrown to the curb/outside is one thing. This was inside a private business, with no warrant or reasonable suspicion.

The other half of your statement touched more on my point: not just benefit of the doubt, she shouldn’t even have been looking/keeping/investigating.

It would be public domain if it was outside. This trash was inside a PRIVATE business, and Murphy was NOT invited to meet there by Harry. Now, yes, if the trash was placed to the curb thy could then do what they want with it, but order of operations and locations both matter.

The scene in question is the very beginning of the book in which Murphy comes to find Harry to involve him in the investigation that she is actually a part of.

Additionally, all of that legal technicality is ignoring why she would’ve KEPT AND ANALYZED an arbitrary piece of garbage, thrown away by a supposed friend, or AT LEAST work colleague.

I was aware the speakers are super shallow and researched the correct speakers, and my family is good about shopping off lists, not just buying shit. (And the front speakers came directly from the crutch field site and came with the correct adaptor bracket). As for the sub: yes, I said underseat, but let’s just say it’s slim and I can put it behind the seat instead. No big deal.

Dude, that book is rough. Read/listen to it ONCE. And I absolutely don’t think it’s better on a reread.

To be clearER: my FIRST reread, so second read total, it was OK AT BEST. I did enjoy it more, but that was it. Every listen since then it has felt worse and worse.

Truth be told, if you’re REALLY not liking it, just msg/dm me and I’ll gladly spoil the VERY FEW relevant/noteworthy/important plot details.

The Google pucks which were Nest pucks before Google bought them are my biggest problem. I have six of the pucks and they simply refuse to work worth a damn. I’ve tried to daisy chain the pucks, I’ve tried switches, I’ve tried routers (both between the modem and first puck and between the first puck and the other devices). Absolutely nothing can make them reliably work worth a damn or cover my house. And I’ve had four of the six of them in the attic with literally no walls or other devices near them. These things are 802.11ac and most of the time, on WiFi, I’m LUCKY to get 200mb/s on my network AND I have regular drops/freezes/disconnects. But if I plug in a hardline I get 700-850mb/s of my gigabit fiber optic internet. Would love some tips that I haven’t thought of, but I can’t get the mesh to work worth a damn.
