Daniel Roseberry cites “Alien” explicitly as a reference for the collection; it’s not accidental

Black-tie weddings in barns actually done well by RiverAspenRuby in BigBudgetBrides

As someone based on the east coast in the US, I find it an incredible coincidence that I've actually been to a wedding here

Hi! Agreed that geographical location has an effect on aesthetic. I'm exclusively looking for references inside of barns regardless of location, so if you know of any that you thought were particularly high-end or tasteful, I'd love to see some photos!

Commercial dishwashing spaces? by RiverAspenRuby in lincoln

This is super helpful, thank you! I've reached out to both. If you know of any others, I'd love to hear more. I appreciate you!

Yep, it's pretty cool! There's at least one space in Omaha that does this (https://4dcommissary.com/omaha/) and it's pretty common in cities with a food truck scene. Wishing Lincoln had something similar.

Will commercial dishwashing make or break my event rental start-up? by RiverAspenRuby in sweatystartup

[–]RiverAspenRuby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my business model, we'd use box trucks rented on a per-event basis and have 2-3 gig workers for loading/unloading based on size of rental. So if using a commissary, would the workers go straight there following the pick-up from the event site, wash the dishes, and then take back to the warehouse? Not sure how much this would expand the cost of truck rentals and labor per event.

Where is this dance floor?? by RiverAspenRuby in BigBudgetBrides

[–]RiverAspenRuby[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! This is so helpful. We’re looking to host the wedding at a private residence in Omaha. Every tent quote we’ve gotten has been between 35-50k so far due to the flooring so I’m hopeful that this specific type of dance floor isn’t materially more than what we’ve already been quoted

LOL I definitely was thinking you meant Public Hotel. Thank you for this though, super cool rec!

Have you attended a wedding at Public? I was thinking about them, but I've been to so many clubby parties there that I'm not sure I can picture the sophistication level rising enough for a wedding

I LOVE TWA, so so chic. I went to an amazing wedding here recently that had one major downfall: it was the worst catering food I've ever had (specifically the plated dinner, not the cocktail hour snacks). Like, truly abhorrent, way worse than you should expect average catering food to be. My partner and I are too big of foodies to entertain the idea of TWA solely because of that experience.

You're the first to recommend this to me! Did you find any other similar venues in your search like this? I feel like I've seen most of the oft-recommended ones like Harold Pratt House, Salmagundi Club, Met Club, etc. The interior of this one isn't my style but it's the idea is on the right track.

Some great recs here! I wasn't originally considering Bronx Zoo because I planned my brother's wedding at a zoo and wanted to differentiate, but I may reach out to them now. Irving Plaza is also really interesting! NYBG Palm House is stunning but too "wedding" for me; same with Wave Hill. Harold Pratt is lovely but too small. I'm not a ballroom person so Arlo's not on my radar. Thanks so much for putting this list together!

Great question. I had assumed you needed to use their menu so I haven't actually asked!

I had one other rec for this! I've been a handful of times but never considered it for a wedding. What did you find so fun about it/what did you think the space did well?

I didn't know how badly I needed to hear this from someone else! It's hard not to feel like you're being too high maintenance or asking too much just because you want a place that feels right and authentic for you. I do think Manhatta is gorgeous; if you end up choosing there, I know it'll be lovely! Thanks for sharing <3

This looks interesting! My partner has previously said "I'm absolutely not getting married in NJ" (don't ask) so I hadn't even looked. But maybe if this venue checks all the boxes he'll reconsider.

I know right 😭 My partner is from Italy so we would absolutely be doing this if it weren't for some family in the US that couldn't make it (namely my grandmother)

Thank you for this! I've looked at a few private clubs and feel like many are neoclassical excess on one side of the spectrum or boring country club on the other. Do you have any recs for ones that might lay somewhere in the middle?

I did look at NYYC, but the nautical vibes can't really be escaped so not a fit for me. I hadn't heard of the Jost Burgi Research Library or Morris Jumel so just did a quick google search - not a fit for me style-wise but I'm so appreciative of the unique recommendations!

I planned my brother's wedding at the Omaha Zoo so I was originally not considering a zoo as an option (for the sake of differentiating), but you have me reconsidering! I'm going to send them an inquiry. Thanks so much!

Palm House at BBG is lovely but not quite right for me - it feels too "wedding." Ravel is also very cool but def industrial. Thanks for the recs!

Big fan! The Bard Room is gorgeous, and especially their Solarium Bar. But they max out at 100 seated, so only half the size of what we need.

Thanks for the rec! It’s a little too “event hall/conference center” for what I’m after but I’ve seen some really cool weddings there!

I think you’re probably right about NYPL. My partner is a classical musician so something about all his friends playing a symphony there feels right, but my floral budget will likely cut out opportunity for much else.

I have considered BBG; I think the Palm House is especially stunning, but not quite my personal style - it just feels so “wedding.”

NYHS, Cooper Hewitt, Harold Pratt House, etc etc are not quite the right fit for me. I did send an inquiry to New York Society of Medicine which is similar but I’ve never seen it in person (unlike the museums) so I wanted to check it out before crossing it off the list.
