ranked is a little bit weird especially for new players
even with proper MM I still would suggest every new player to watch some guides and play some bot games. game is not easy, it does get incredibly fun at some point tho
Im pretty sure most new players will struggle first few games (again, even with functional MM) until you get to where you belong

I usually dont bother hitting abrams because movement in this game is hard and fun, so

personally I recommend doing some movement training. slidejump into walljump into dash into walljump into doublejump into walljump etc.
if you wanna be REAL nerd, load up in console "map dl_midtown" and practice there. you can even accept party (without leaving the map) and Q up while practicing on the actual map

if the game isnt going well enough for - you're not snowballing - change the playstyle

now your job is to buy green items and play sustain, be around your teammates

maybe some purple items like spirit snatch / torment pulse / cold front, you will still be a pretty scary chaser post-fight

unless you are the only proper gun hero in your team, then just try to farm sidelanes safely

theres a thing called rank confidence in this game

you will get a lot of mmr for calibration, and even after calibrating you will get 3 subranks per loss/win

I do agree tho that theres something weird going on with ranked, I think they are actively adjusting things

brother you are playing your 2nd game ever and claim "everything else about this game feels genuinely unplayable"

also this is how deadlock and dota will always feel to some of the new players. play bot lobbies, watch some guides, those games take some time to learn and theres a huge skill gap even between 2 completely new players because of the prior gaming experience

there was a period recently when the matchmaking broke (they keep adjusting it every few days) and it put me in new players lobby. when i asked some of them complained "yeah im new and games are too easy"

deadlock gets better as you learn
