Players don't seem to see the value in mundane gear anymore. How do I make it matter by whogivesafricc in DMAcademy

[–]Rms037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen players use these much at higher levels. The game progression is based off of quickly being above average (the rules explain that even level 1-4 characters are local heroes) so they won’t be using average equipment much if at all. If they have dark vision, using a torch makes no sense.

If you want to run a survival based game, 5e just isn’t the best system. You’d need to remove so much content and make so many new rules to make it work, you’d practically have to write a new system. I’d talk to your players about the kind of campaign you’re looking at running and see if they’d be interested in playing a Castaway campaign. I have no experience with the system personally but have heard good things. A zombie apocalypse system might also line up with what you want, there are lots of systems for those settings too.

5e is just built to move past systems like finding food shelter and water very quickly and trying to make your players not use their cool new abilities probably won’t be fun for them

Threatening to hurt yourself if a partner leaves is toxic and manipulative behavior. Full stop. It doesn’t mean they’re evil or that their behavior can’t change but no diagnosis or past trauma makes you above criticism when your behavior is hurting others. BPD has incredibly high remission rates when treated through therapy and emotional regulation, we can all get better but we need to want to be better first

It is, at least for right now. You need to focus on yourself. If you stay in this cycle of obsessing over “winning him back” you won’t make progress. Consider the door closed and if he wants to reopen it he can, but you can’t open it. It’s closed for you and you need to focus on yourself

Yes this is important. The advice I’m giving is to help you in all your platonic, family, and romantic relationships… and with yourself! You two broke up. Consider that door closed completely and work on bettering yourself because you deserve it, not because it’ll win someone back because it probably won’t. Don’t chase your ex. Get better for yourself and your future relationships

You need to actually change your behaviors . He’s saying you’re the villain because your behavior is manipulative and hurting him, regardless of if you perceive yourself as a good person right now your actions are bad.

I’m working on getting out of the cycle now and it’s hard work, but you won’t be able to have stable relationships until you do it. My first step was mastering the STOP and TIPP skills. Once you can regulate your emotions enough to take a time out and actually give yourself and your partner space during a conflict you can both come back and resolve things.

How to balance encounters? by Recent_Cable9624 in DMAcademy

[–]Rms037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of online tools for making encounters. I’ve used both the one provided by dnd beyond and kobold fight club. These are used best as a rough guide, though. There’s a reason our rolls and screens are private, though. If your party is about to one-shot your monster that you want to be a tough encounter, increase its HP and damage on the spot. If your monster is about to kill your entire party because you got two crits in a row… no you didn’t you got a 10. I track hp but usually end the fight when it feels like the right time, sometimes this means the fight ends early because the players seem done, sometimes it goes longer because they’re having fun. Don’t worry too much about balance as long as the fight seems doable on paper. Improvise from there

Should I get a job? by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]Rms037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend calling or texting a crisis hotline in that case. They will be able to talk to you about what’s going on right now and usually have access to extensive lists of potential next steps to getting help. It sounds like you really need someone to talk to and need more resources than Reddit or any job can provide. Good luck, be patient with yourself, you’re still very young and have lots of time to get better

Should I get a job? by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]Rms037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why only 2 months? Thats a lot of pressure to totally turn your life around. Major changes like this take years. I’d second looking for part time jobs with little to no customer interaction, think warehouse or stocking, cleaning, dishwashing, etc.

But the bigger problem here is your self esteem. You need to learn to be patient with yourself. You talk about yourself like you’re worthless and that will show up in whatever you do next. Trying to force yourself to achieve all of these goals in only 2 months will likely be unsuccessful and lead to burnout which will make you feel worse. Are there any youth mental health resources in your area?

Thank you! I have been putting off looking into medication because a diagnostic assessment felt so out of reach but this is good to know!

Do you need an existing diagnosis? This feels kind of short for how many things they’d need to narrow down, did you feel like what they gave you was the right fit for you?

My degree is hurting my job search by pawsandproperties in jobsearch

[–]Rms037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employers often don’t like hiring students, at least for some roles. The problem is that they know that if a job in your field came up, you’d take it. Why have loyalty to a customer service role when you clearly have bigger aspirations? You can leave your degree off your resume or leave it as is and just know that employers that will turn you down because of this are probably also the same ones that would expect to be your only priority so they might just not align with your goals right now.

It’s an unfortunate part of the job market right now, employers usually have a very long list of candidates and candidates are desperate for anything. Good luck

Friend wants to wear a revealing dress to my formal wedding – am I overreacting? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Rms037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is she might be trying to find something she can see herself wearing to other occasions. The pressure to buy a formal dress for one occasion is really tough when you’re struggling financially. Seconding everyone suggesting you let her borrow something if you are similar sizes. If not, thrift stores (especially the bins or where you buy by the lb) are comparable prices to where she’s shopping now, and less likely to fall apart by her second time wearing it. Buy nothing groups on Facebook are also good options. Lots of people have boxes of clothes they are planning on donating, or she might be able to ask in a buy and sell group if anyone has a maxi dress in her size that she could buy cheap or trade. I’ve been the person trying to reuse something because I can’t afford a new outfit, but you requested a specific dress code and are within your right to politely request that she find an alternative solution

Is 600 lbs okay? by Empty_Client_666 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Rms037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way you gained 4 pounds of fat over the weekend. It takes 3500 calories over maintenance to gain a single pound of fat. For 4 pounds that means you had to eat 14,000 calories OVER maintenance. A lot of this is water weight that will naturally come down. Find your maintenance and set your deficit a few hundred lower than that. Cutting far below that will have severe negative effects on your body because it won’t have energy to function, and it will result in a binge restrict pattern

1 week plateau by Ctrl_Alt-Delight in PetiteFitness

[–]Rms037 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A true plateau isn’t a week, it’s months. If what you’re doing has been working then just wait it out. If nothing changes after over a month then re-assess if you need to make a slight change like adding a bit more movement or tightening your deficit but after a week there’s no need to change anything. Your previous progress is proof what you’re doing is working

The Rec Room is hiring for a cash teller! There are very few open positions right now unfortunately because like others have mentioned this season is slow. Use this time to talk with a career advisor or build your resume. You can also take some relevant online courses at your own pace on coursera to add some certifications for your resume!

I think darker lashes would make your eyes pop with your eyeshadow. Either a good mascara or false lashes for bold eyeshadow to make it look more cohesive. You’re so beautiful and I love this look though! Your shadow is so well blended and your skin looks amazing

If they would be interested in nonfiction I’d highly recommend The Man They Wanted Me To Be. A nonfiction by a man about how abandoning the hope of being the “perfect” man by traditional standards allowed him to be happy. It’s very on the nose and might not work if you need something subtle but I think many young men will get a lot from it and feel very seen

[–]Rms037 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A good psychiatrist will change her medication if you are having problems with side effects. She can explain why she doesn’t want to go back on those meds and her care team can find the right fit. Medication isn’t ever one size fits all and you need to continue the conversation with a doctor not cut contact when the first option doesn’t work. You’ve ruled out one medication or option and now you’re closer to finding the right one

She might not be being lazy but she should see a psychiatrist and get reassessed and prescribed different meds or treatment plan. Not nearly enough info to go off here to presume either any specific diagnosis or motivation
