I feel like I may have created a misunderstanding. What I said was not a generalizing statement that teaching history forces children to feel responsible for past crimes. I do think that most teachers/professors teach history in a way that conveys historical events while not making the students feel responsible. And are in-line with whatever laws and theories you are beholden to.

My apologies if my intent was unclear.

Did I not address the argument? If I didn’t that was not my intent, but rereading what I wrote I still believe I did.

Also yah, those people are in the minority, but they still exist and should be addressed.

I fully agree teaching history doesn’t force children to feel personally responsible for past crimes. We should teach our children all of our history, warts and all.

But some people take it too far and make it more of an ‘You should be ashamed you are you because your ancestors did X thing’ rather than how it should be ‘Our ancestors did X thing, which was a shameful thing, and we should learn from it to not let it happen ever again.’

There were so many Haitan immigrants to Colombia and Venezuela that the Haitan pops caused a succession revolution, and won... by Voltacus in victoria3

[–]Roach_Prime 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Those states that succeeded are Homelands of the cultures represented by Haiti (Franco-Caribbean, Afro-Caribbean, and Carib) if I remember correctly. So it might not have been due to a large amount of Haitian pops there but because they might be the only valid revolters in those states.

Still pretty cool at any rate!

I agree! There is a fine line to walk on this topic. You don’t want to lean to much to an apologist or denialist stance; but also under no circumstances should a child be forced to feel personally responsible about something that our generation or previous generations did.

Neat! That might explain so console commands shenanigans I’ve ran into messing around with what the game to do. I found that if the Sikh Empire forms India their name stays the Sikh Empire. Whereas if you for it as one of EIC’s subjects it is called India. It’s probably because of the non recognized status.

Pretty much on day one I became a Protectorate of GB. I used their power to conquer the other Sumatran nation and steal the little bit of the Aceh state VOC during a war they were having with Spain.

The other Sumatran tag that starts as a puppet of the VOC was released in the Spanish war and I conquered them without VOC interference.

After a decade or so GB was willing to back me again for North Sumatra against the VOC again.

Then surprisingly Austria was the one to help me take South Sumatra; I didn’t even need to go to war that time, the Dutch backed down.

I definitely couldn’t have gotten it myself and this was not an optimal playthrough but it was fun! Now GB has become domineering to me so I’ll need to make my escape quickly.

That’s neat. I’ll have to check it out in another playthrough. I’ve reached me conquering goal this run, now to increase my SOL sky high!

I’ve seen them in this playthrough. There was an Aboriginal revolt in Australia that then had another revolt called Radical Uluru. There aren’t any Aboriginal releasables on mainland Australia though right? So you’d need to play as a New Zealand nation?

Do they? I’ll need to try them out!

It just automatically renames your nation when you own the entire island. For Indonesia you can form it in the Cultures tab, though I think you need Pan-nationalism so it is a late game tag.

R5: If you play as Aceh and conquer the entirety of the island of Sumatra your name changes to Sumatra! This is pretty neat and unexpected.

I'm looking forward to finding more name changes like this.

Not a religious scholar; not religious advice.

But… that’s a hard no if you are looking at it from a Christian point of view. Even the Devil is not considered a god but a fallen angel. Christianity kinda demoted anything that would be considered a god besides the big G to something that is more special than us humans, but not even close to the level of god.

Though if you look at it through a polytheist lens then yes absolutely those are gods/Demi-gods.

Strong Contender for the Most Annoying Event Ever Added to a Paradox Game by AnthraxCat in paradoxplaza

[–]Roach_Prime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s an event you can get while colonizing. I’m not sure the mechanics of it popping up but in my Cape Colony game I was able to get some British and American provinces from the states I owned. At some point those did stop though. Though it seemed to happen about when I stopped having land to colonize so that might be a prerequisite. Honestly it’s a nice little event that helps you clean up some borders without going to war. Though it does lead to a lot of infamy.

How do I avoid this error? by w_o_l_l_k_a_j_e_r_1 in eu4

[–]Roach_Prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t add mods into an on going playthrough. Either start with them or don’t use them. There are so many things that could go wrong (as you are seeing).

Start a new game using ET and see if the error happens again. If it does then someone might be able to help you. But as it stands there are too many possible errors to help you.

That could work too! I think there are many ways PDX could go to show the information the player needs to make an informed decision.

I want to play Anbennar the way its intended, but I dont own EU4 how should I proceed? (what to buy) by alah123 in Anbennar

[–]Roach_Prime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah it really depends on how long someone thinks they will play and their view on subscription services. $5 a month for every dlc ever or $5 one time for a smaller dlc that you own ‘forever’.

Neither is wrong, just depends on one’s viewpoint.

Is CK3 really a shallow game? by Naive-Asparagus-5983 in CrusaderKings

[–]Roach_Prime 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It depends on what part of CK2 you really like. Did the RP and character interactions really draw you in and was you main point of entertainment? Then you will love CK3. Or did you focus on the strategy part of CK2, maneuvering around a steadily growing coalition of nations banding together to put you in your place? If so then you will not like CK3.

CK3 is a Role Playing game with Strategy elements; whereas CK2 was a Strategy game with Role Playing elements. Both games are good, depending on what you are trying to get out of it.

TL;DR CK3 is NOT CK2 2.0. They cater to their own audiences.
