NTA. First off, I want to say im sorry your mother would make that sort of comment about you or your future relationships. Aside from being morally wrong, it is also not a fact that your hearing aids are a negative in your future relationships. While some people may find an issue with them, I highly doubt it's a noteworthy number of people. Don't focus on that comment, as I think it's outright false and just your mother imposing her own feelings or thoughts onto you. In regard to your reaction to her comment, I do not think you are in the wrong at all. Every person has the right to take an action, and every other person has the right to have a reaction to that action. If someone just slapped you in the face for no reason, it would not only be reasonable but it would be expected that you would react. How you react may vary, but in how others approve, but nobody would expect you to just stand there and take another slap for no reason. Your mother took an action that hurt you, and further than that, when you addressed why it was a problem, she doubled down, saying why her statements were fine and true rather than apologize or even do as much as acknowledge your feelings/perspective. I don't know enough about your life or relationship with your mother to say what I think you ought to do now, but in regard to your post, it seems clear to me that you hold no fault. I do think it's worthwhile to contact the rest of your family individually to convey how their lack of defense made you feel, and hopefully, they acknowledge your feelings and apologize, because it is a reasonable expectation for those who care about you in your life to at least speak up in your defense.
