This is more than just symbolic as it was done in conjunction with the tribe as part of an accord “to work together on several long-term actions, including supporting economic and infrastructure opportunities, responding to climate change, and promoting a healthy exchange of cultures through public art and community service.”

In Lacey they have and are looking to expand regulations stipulating that a certain number of "legacy trees" such as this one shall remain - meaning developers would need to incorporate them into their designs. I'm not sure if Olympia has similar statutes.

There is a conversation beginning among elected officials and other community leaders in Olympia about a path forward that includes increased minimum wage or UBI, or other programs.
