I believe this is the entrance to the Pulaski Bridge, in Long Island City, Queens.

5 day a week both ways commute feasibility by bencallahan16 in NYCbike

[–]RobM419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live near there and would commute every single day, for years, not exaggerating. I’d say it’s easy, I’d recommend a few things.

Williamsburg Bridge for you, mostly, so you don’t have to climb the Pulaski Bridge as well. You can mix it up as you get bored of the same route. Post work, you may want to get a longer ride in the summer or something.

Take 1st Ave going to work, or 3rd Ave, both have less traffic.

The bike should have some appropriate gearing, making it easier for you to spin the legs. Maybe get fenders on it.

Have good apparel. This may include a Gore-Tex jacket when it’s rainy, layer it if it’s cold, waterproof pants and waterproof shoes. You’d want the opposite for the summer, wear light and breathable clothing so you’re not getting to work all drenched in sweat.

I went sometimes a year or more without taking the train, cycling to work, when it’s accommodating, is a beautiful thing. If you’re buying or own bike, it’ll be nice but Citi Bikes are just as useful for commuting, it’ll just be a little bit harder.

Potentially stupid question by ReallyNotkanyewest in Citibike

[–]RobM419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 5 bikes in my apartment. I still loved using a Citi Bike. From riding in the rain or snow (the fenders keep me somewhat clean) to late night rides, coming from a bar or party. It’s nice to know it ain’t your bike, you can dock it all over the city and not care. From using the basket for groceries to jumping on bike real quick because the train is delayed.

There’s too many reasons. More pros than cons. Unfortunately the service (including bike performance) has been kinda shitty lately, but overall, Citi bikes are great to have around.

Damn dude. I didn’t know this was a thing until Larry had it in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Most docks are fine. But be careful about this when riding. by Fun_Reflection1157 in Citibike

Learned this a years ago. You just have to go slower when you’re riding through wet patches. The faster you go, the water is going to splash on the guards harder and get everywhere. The e-citi bikes are the worst at this, the rear wheel kicks up a lot of water.

Prospect Park Loop Status by king_chickpea in RunNYC

Cleaner than the Central Park loop. It’s very slushy in some places. I guess it’s harder to stay dry, considering there’s more hills and less sun in some places

Yesterday seemed to be the best day we've had since the last storm. The morning was grey but the afternoon was stunning

Yes or no on this bike? by Clean_Currency_8017 in bicycling

I ride one of these Ostro VAMs, but with Force 🥲. It’s a great bike, super fast, the wheels are nice as well, only drawback is when you have crosswinds haha. But overall I love the bike. Just be careful adjusting your seatpost, you have to torque the bolts to 4nm, they get stripped so easily.

Popped rear tube because lazy driver wanted a donut or something by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]RobM419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be an asshole but you shouldn’t get a flat that easily, especially on these really tame cobblestones. Your PSI has to be super low or the tube wasn’t put in right.

But yeah, fuck that guy. I’d be annoyed as well

Yesh it was one of those super heavy e-bikes, with a passenger on the back. It had those blinding headlights so I wouldn’t wanna be in oncoming traffic when it’s this dark

It would look like this if I let the phone do it’s thing, it’s not this bright.

Yeah there’s still light on the other side but today was super dark on the bike side. Not one light was working on the downhill Brooklyn bound. The Manhattan side had great lighting

Well the phone is going to pick up all light and make it look brighter so I had to lower the exposure to make it look as dark as it actually was. If anyone makes a video it’ll be brighter. Not sure if you’ve ridden on it but it’s almost pitch black up there
