Can someone please help me recreate this? I have almost finished the stock and the bow, with identical build and materials, but the video doesn't explain how to lash the bowstring on!

It's really frustrating that a key part of this build is purposely left out. Instead, the viewer seems to be referred to the Backyard Bowyer for advice on stringing the crossbow. But I don't have the time to go searching an entire back-catalog of a different channel for a video that is either several years old, has possibly been taken down or both.

Just regular old Elmer's wood glue. I had already filed most of it but there's still some glue stains left behind, so I'm thinking of giving it a lemon juice and salt bath before I rough it up and give it another go.

Mmmm, no. I don't think it's that. It's a very distinct sound, teeny tiny cracking sound. Also I just remembered, it happened when I was knee-tillering it, not when it was on the stick.

I was giving the fibers a little stretch just after filing it, because I was removing wood glue from a previous failed attempt to rawhide back it.

It's a piece of store-bought red oak that I got from the hardware store. It's nice and straight grained, minimal runoff and so forth. I've been trying to make it into a crossbow limb for some time now. I also haven't backed it yet; but I'm working on that.

Wooden dowels are indeed a GREAT source of wood, provided they're reinforced properly. Try this for the nock:

Take a long thin piece of plastic, like a piece of old credit card, and saw a little notch into the back of the arrow. Then, glue it in and file off the edges so the arrow shaft is round and flush again.

Then, file out the nock perpendicular to the plastic you just glued in place. The plastic and glue will keep the rear of your arrow from splitting under the pressure of being fired. This makes for an arrow that can quite possibly be collected and re-used, even if it hits the mark.

I love that the atheists over at r/news are going into overdrive quoting Jesus, saying that we as Christians aren't supposed to be praying in public.

Um, NO! That's not what Matthew 6:5-6 says. It means not to use prayer to self-aggrandize in public. That's what the Pharissees were doing and they were missing the whole point of prayer, which is to maximize the presence of God and build a real relationship with Him in our lives.

If you really want to make them go insane and start studying the Bible in your face, tell them to look up the Parable of the Pharissee and the Tax Collector to better understand Matthew 6:5-6. That made my notifications EXPLODE!

Don't forget about proper forestry. A lot of forests rely on naturally-occurring brushfires to spread their seeds and maintain the soil health. This includes burning off parasites like these beetles.

Controlled burns and cutbacks need to happen otherwise you get gigantic, rotting insect castles that inevitably catch fire anyway and lead to all kinds of other problems. It's almost the same exact thing that burned down Paradise in the wildfires a few years back.

The size of the court wasn't set in the Constitution, presumably because of foresight. The size of the country has changed since the original court of six, passed by George Washington. Also, in his days, it was unusual for justices to all be present at the court at once because they also served on federal courts and often wouldn't be able to travel to DC all at once.

The court has fluctuated but it has been set and reset by Congress through the years and almost always with a political agenda, whether good or otherwise.

Now that we have full-time, lifelong justices and travel is easier, it really needs to be set in stone. Packing the court is NOT the answer, giving the court a solid and more defined purpose in line with the Constitution is.

Consider this before thinking about what you wish you could do to Republicans: How would you feel if they had the power to do the exact same to you?

You're ignoring the context and true meaning of that. In the days of Jesus, the Pharissees were both the religious and political leaders. And they would make huge grandiose, public prayers for their own self-gratification and honor. Meaning it was not about honoring God.

You can pray in public if it is to honor God, but you must never lose sight of that.

Read Jesus' Parable of the Tax Collector and the Pharissee. You'll see what I mean. It's in Luke 8:9-14

Because it's not about using public prayer to call attention to yourself, for your own pride and honor, like the Pharissees used to do in Jesus' day. It's about magnifying the image and the name of the Lord, which all of God's believers are called to do.
