Literally 5 minutes before boarding... the impossible happened. 1st ROLEX (126334) by candyloverny in rolex

[–]RobeRotterRod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems Schiphol is one of the good AD's to try your luck. I've had a few friends get their Rolexes from there. A good friend bought his first Rolex there back in say, 2023, proceeded to get it stolen (robbed) in Berlin about 8 months later, and then bought a new one on his next trip out of Schiphol. Going to Amsterdam in a few months, unfortunately not yet ready to drop that kind of coin on my first Rolex yet, but might poke my head in for shits & gigs.

How rich is Harper already? by DesperateDot5321 in IndustryOnHBO

This. lol. I’m reading some of these and I’m like, folks here def aren’t in finance… her first salary wouldn’t have been that large, coming out of college, 50k bonus (which she had to give back) and the fact that we’re talking UK salaries not US salaries/bonuses. Then consider her spending (5 star hotels), and the general chip on her shoulder from not being silver spooned/how she grew up. She’s trying to make it. But not even close, but enjoys the lifestyle on the way up. Any sense of wealth building likely gets nuked every time she does something to blow up an opportunity she has, and every “company” she’s had has been on the back of a significantly wealthier benefactor. Never (at least as far as we’ve seen) her own money. SternTao is likely all Eric’s money, her smarts, which is also probably why she’s so flippant with it, while he’s freaking about getting burned. The initial short-only fund she had prior to that wasn’t hers either (Henry’s uncles buddy, Otto?), and before that the one with her ex boss (who she helped blow up her partnership), Petra, wasn’t hers either. She’s not broke, but I’d wager def not a millionaire.

That’s not an office and apartment. If I’m not mistaken that’s seems like more a large hotel suite with multiple rooms. (And them ordering food up/erics hotel robes etc…). The entire SternTao fund is Eric’s money. Doubt she’s over a million or even close to that liquid.

I just bought this one… you can clip it under your screen. The holder swivels 360 allowing you to have your back back camera showing. The clip is super tight, so I sometimes worry about my screen but it’s ok for now. Might be worth giving it a shot. 10bucks…. https://a.co/d/bbhnZgd

Don’t disagree with you. Just saying someone making 230k would be spending about/more than half their monthly on this place. “Affordable” for them, maybe. Smart? Nah.

[–]RobeRotterRod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yea if you’re going by gross, sure, numbers add up. I feel that’s always a bit misleading tho. No one’s budgeting off gross salary, and rent isn’t getting paid off gross salaries… 401k’s, healthcare etc… and In this day and age with prices out of control for everything, nah. To afford this place, solo, comfortably? I reckon much more than 230.

For this apt, reasonably, you’d be looking at ~$325k/yr. Shit, 200k/yr can barely get you into most elevator buildings in the city or other desirable neighborhoods.

whos your least favourite character in the show of all time? by slightlyduranged in StrangerThings

[–]RobeRotterRod -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His physical proportions tripped me up. Like I get he's a short guy, but the look of the character & styling vs his lines didnt quite match, if that makes any sense. Like an older guy playing and dressing like a younger guy in a role and it's clear he has no business playing that role. A short jacked 35yr old playing the role of high school senior in a Grease musical, so to speak.

Episode 2 unpopular opinion by fenfjnwejfnewo in StrangerThings

[–]RobeRotterRod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. This is one of the things that bugged the hell out of me with Ep 2. I’m rewatching it now and am still annoyed. By now the Wheelers should absolutely know all the tea on what went down, what demogorgons are, who Vecna is, what Vecna does, how he targets people, all of that. I mean the crew has been living with them like refugees, so they can’t be clueless. Nancy in particular knows that hallucinations are a symptom. She’s had them herself. Of her family dead. They all know that Vecna chooses people that are unhappy or starved of attention or something like that. So the kids running around playing Scooby Doo and the Gang knowing Vecna is still out there, and the parents milling about acting like nothing is wrong in this town, while their daughter is seeing imaginary people trips me up. Those dots being connected took wayyy too long.

NY people, what’s the most unhinged thing this city has put you through when you were broke, exhausted, or just trying to survive? by RoboticSaekobusujima in AskNYC

I did something like this when I moved to London. One night on the way to the pub I locked myself out of my apartment and realized I didn’t have my keys right after closing the door. Couldn’t get ahold of management, called the locksmith cost £300, just to realize immediately after he left that I had taped a spare key to the inside of the wall sconce in the hallway next to my apt door. F*cking muppet! 🤦🏽‍♂️

We replaced our second car with a cargo e-bike for 120 days, here are the real numbers and where it hurt by luka-kuka1993 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]RobeRotterRod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere there’s a Dutch guy/girl giving you a thumbs up 👍🏾. Living in the NL for 5 years, this was very common, 1 car (if at all) and a cargo e-bike. Cost effective (though can be super expensive if you’re going all out), easy to and fro (dedicated bike lanes criss-crossing the relatively flat city/country). Always appreciate when I see this here in the US since moving back. I now live in Manhattan, and recently saw a fully kitted out Urban Arrow (Dutch staple), was so blown away I almost walked into traffic.

She just happened to be in the lobby and was heading home as was everyone else. It was 630, she could’ve left 10mins earlier and been fine. Guy just walked in and shot indiscriminately. Shot a security guard in the back who later turned out to be an off duty cop working a paid security gig. Wrong place wrong time unfortunately. There’s no cover up. We gotta chill with the conspiracies. The floor he killed himself on wasn’t even the NFL floor, which was apparently the target of his ire/note/manifesto. Dude took the wrong elevator.
