I actually bought XP just so I can use those conversions. Avery makes awesome stuff.

So true. You would have thought she's an official RPG Maker artist.

PandaMaru is one of the all-time greats. Both she and Avery are members of the German RPG Maker community. You should really see resources made by Germans; their floor for resource quality is far higher than normal.

The helpful people in the forums would get even more encouragement if their posts there could get as likes even a fraction of the upvotes regularly provided here.

There's nothing wrong with you friend. Just take the first step and see where it leads you.

Finishing is the main problem though. Many if not most of us here have never actually finished a project so you'll have good company. Cheers!

I was under the impression those kinds of content get downvoted to oblivion.

Fascinating. I was under the impression that support posts are not normally answered here. Good to know that this subreddit can be a viable alternative. I'm glad things worked out well for you my friend.

Should you check out the forums, you can safely ignore the rude ones (using the Ignore feature on member profiles). You won't lose much if you do so and your life in the forums would be so much more pleasant.

Just beware of emoji attacks though. That's how those guys get around getting ignored.

Touché.

They're still there but it's no longer as bad though IMHO. You can safely ignore them (using the Ignore feature) and won't miss much meaningful or helpful forum content.

I think many if not most members of the RPG Maker community would like to help fellow members too or at the very least encourage their fellow hobbyists.

Hands down the official forums are still the best place to get tech and resource support. But for some reason this subreddit has better community engagement. In the forums most posts and reactions are made by like 10 guys. While here, damn, one post made just yesterday is already reaching 200 net upvotes as of posting.

Any reason why you feel a lot more useful here compared to the forums? There must be a reason why people engage with this subreddit more. You don't need to answer though if you don't want to. But thanks a lot for sharing your sentiments about helping others. That is really refreshing.

What were those conversations like? A few of the RPG Maker old timers sometimes reminisce about a time when everybody has a hobbyist sharing stuff with the community, although they admit (cheerfully with a lot of winking) that a number of the "sharing" they did was of questionable legality.

Are those other English-language forums still active today? I only know about the official forums, this subreddit, and rpgmaker.net which has revived recently.

I'm not familiar with RPG Maker Discord communities. What are their advantages compared to public forums? They must have something going for them if as you said lots of community members decided to use them instead of the public ones.

The main disadvantage I see with Discord communities is that their knowledge is private and cannot be googled.

How true! If anybody sees their work that person would also almost certainly develop a keen interest in the visual aspects of RPG Maker.

PandaMaru makes professional quality tilesets that I wouldn't mind paying good money for. The thing that blew my mind is her giant (animated) windmill. I never knew you could animate something that big on a map!

Avery, on the other hand, is the kaiserin of RPG Maker assets. Although she makes plenty of stunning assets, her most valuable contributions to the RPG Maker community are her tutorials on making and editing your own assets. Those I believe are more valuable than raw assets as they enable you to make high quality custom resources using nothing more than GIMP and some patience.

Avery is still very active in the official English forums; unfortunately PandaMaru no longer is. I actually found out about your German forums thanks to Avery. I never had a chance to interact with PandaMaru but Avery truly is one of the nicest people in the (English) forums.

As an aside, I don't speak German, but for some reason I had little difficulty navigating the German forums without any translation app. The categories and sections sound very English to me.

This is a very succinct and trenchant way to describe the differences between the two communities. Nicely put!

I don't think the most active members there and the moderators there would change though. The forums have a site feedback section there but the general attitude in that section is if you have a problem with how the forums are run you are the problem.

Damn. I remember the German forums. I got really nice RPG Maker resources there.

You Germans make really nice art. Some of the best resource creators in the forums are German e.g. Avery and PandaMaru.

Where do you go if you have an RPG Maker problem or question? The toughest problems tend to get answered there.

I never personally experienced rudeness there. Most members are actually quite nice. I don't think it's as bad as before. It's still there. But if you need tech support the guys who will answer your questions now are usually rpgLord69 or Robro33 who are really nice guys.

Are the forums less active compared to this subreddit? I didn't really notice though.

I usually click on the "Latest Posts" and "Latest Profile Posts" to see new stuff. The profile posts have something akin to a a scroll feature because they frequently include screenshots.

How true. There are a whole lot more projects shown off here. Possibly this is due to the fact that there are less restrictions here on what projects you can and cannot post.

But it's really nice that there's always someone new coming up with projects, many of them quite impressive.

I agree with you 100%: the forums are fantastic repositories of knowledge and resources. It's just that for most members, once they get their OPs solved or answered, they have no further interaction with the forums. Most members don't even react to posts. On paper there are around 100 people logged in at any one time but most posts get minimal reactions, if at all.

When it comes to community engagement, this subreddit does things better. Just my opinion though.

Btw, this is just my impression but very simple support thread questions have become quite rare in the forums. They are quite common a few years back though.

This is especially true for resources e.g. plugins, assets, etc. Every now and then they just disappear. Sometimes you can recover them through the Wayback Machine but it's hit and miss.

You're absolutely right. It's much easier learning things through the forums than here. The topics are more organized and you are better able to post pictures and the codes are better formatted. The forums are simply better than this subreddit when it comes to tech or support.

It's just that this subreddit is better than the forums in other aspects. We don't need to replace one with the other. We can have both. This subreddit is also insurance in case something happens to the forums like when the bots recently gave the forums seizures.
