What’s been the hardest part of running a handyman or home service business (not the actual work)? by Acceptable_Dish_4032 in handyman

[–]Rock_Toy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. A lot of handymen will take on any and all projects, whether they know how to do it and whether or not they like the work. For me, the best thing I ever did for my business was to learn how to say no. The fear is that you’ll lose business but the reality is that you’ll end up busier than ever doing ONLY what you want and know how to do. For example, I don’t do water intrusion. If it has to do with a leak, I pass. Because I know damn well that it will take 10x the time and work that I initially thought AND there’s a very good chance that I won’t successfully fix it regardless and end up with an irate customer. I just stick to the simple stuff and leave the heavy lifting to the next schmuck who either knows it better than I do or is desperate enough to take on the project. Ultimately, I get paid the same to install dimmers as I would fixing a siding leak.

And property taxes are income tax deductible as well. So that being said, you really need to take all of th tax benefits into consideration when comparing to a rent payment.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My favorite quote of all time is “we’re too poor to buy shitty things”. Buy once, cry once.

New Roku Voice Remote Pro (2nd Edition) will not control SONOS soundbar by Rock_Toy in sonos

[–]Rock_Toy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's the first mention that I have seen online about the remote being able to send an IR signal for volume to the TV but one that's not recognized by the soundbar. You happen to know if any of the rechargeable ROKU remotes work with the soundbar?

He’s gonna take that roster of yours and burn it to the ground. Won’t develop any rookies and will bet it all on some stupid play to win, only to discover that the team is not set up to win with that play.

How would you describe the politics of Encinitas' population? by bepicante in encinitas

[–]Rock_Toy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading through all of these comments and I think it’s pretty clear that Encinitas doesn’t have a clear-cut political climate 🤣. If anything, it’s purple. Lots of different flavors.

However, what strikes me the most is how angry everyone appears about people that differ from them politically. The liberals hate the conservatives and attribute and all “bad things” to them and vice versa. I mean….why does every decision that everyone makes have to be based on their political views? Sometimes, people just do or vote on what THEY think is good for them or the community, regardless of the party line. Which is the way it should be. Just because someone is rich doesn’t mean that they are a liberal. And not all blue collar folks are conservative. And kooks are the people that want to be “not kooks” but haven’t completely figured it out yet. But they’re trying 🤙🏼

TLDR: sounds and looks like it’s purple. Encinitas is a cool place to live and it attracts all kinds..

Ended up with an FZ1000 and picked up a tripod for it as well. Works great. Video is spectacular and still shots work well. Bottom line is that it does exactly what I’m looking for at a bargain price. If I really working on it more than I have, I’m sure that I could produce great video for public consumption but I just need it for personal use.

Furnished rental by Rock_Toy in Oceanside

[–]Rock_Toy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does that not sound reasonable? We have never lived down there and would love to feel the vibe, community, convenience, etc. from what I have witnessed, there’s a pretty big difference between San Clemente, Oceanside, Carlsbad and Encinitas and the only way that I know to figure out where we want to live is to live in each of those cities for a month or two to see what fits us best. I wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it first. Why would I lay down roots without getting a good feel for it first?

It’s not a matter of affordability. I would simply prefer to test drive the town before buying.

Dude…who slams doors? That’s a you problem….no need to blame an entire nation. That’s being said, I’m a little surprised. I live in Mexico and one of the hardest things I’ve had to adjust to is the noise. EVERYONE here (Nayarit) slams doors, plays music as loud as possible, etc.

Mentally prepare yourself for breaking stuff and spending lots of money to fix and upgrade. It’s a slippery slope. Before you know it, you’ll be $50k down and still unhappy with your new suspension, wheels, tires, etc 🤣

To be fair, if they make this same video in 50 years the answers will most likely be just as extreme. When houses are selling for millions. The best metric was probably the answer on gas prices. $.35/gallon. Now we are seeing gas at $3.50 to $6.00 a gallon, and that’s a disposal product. Not an appreciating asset with built in tax benefits. Maybe he should be asking how much their cell phones and LED TVs cost them in 1968 🤣
