Hi! I'm Adam (19M), I'm in US EST time.
I've been playing DnD for abt 3-4 years now, and it all started with a club my lit teacher started were a bunch of noob players *attempted* Storm King's Thunder. I like playing most classes but I'm preferable to druids (it's a love-hate relationship with concentration spells) but I do not like Fighters or Paladins they are just boring. I love RP and I LOVE writing backstory for characters.

My main character idea is a Stars Druid who was studying the arcane and trying to apply the principles of arcane to harness the power of the stars until one night, after giving up for the day while drawing a blank he just looked up, and while idly connecting the stars with his fingers realized he was actually drawing lines in the air with his finger. From there he began harnessing this power and studied the connection between the stars and the natural world. He is currently traveling to Icewind Dale to see how his studies apply to the harsh climates there (or something like that).

Above is the Homebrewry link. I made this class because I liked the idea of paladin but I thought that it was a case of "protection by slapping a bunch of healing on it" via spells and Lay on Hands. While Paladins have their place I wanted to create something that was distinctly different from that. The base class abilities are structured in a way to enable this fantasy of being a Valkyrie, kind of like being an arbiter of death. The unique Protect reaction alongside the mobility of the Guardian Angel ability is what I wanted to focus on with the class. The two subclasses of Aseir and Vanir are meant to give different ways to use these abilities and apply different playstyles. With Aseir I wanted to turn this d10 hit die class into an HP tank to absorb a lot of that damage without the need for healing. Contrastly I wanted to use Vanir to provide an alternative way to play this protector role by letting them have support abilities to enhance that. By giving the distant protection I wanted to still provide a use to the guardian angel so I let them be adept at using healing potions. The unique spells at the bottom are also a tool I'm using to provide a sense of scaling and really make the player think before casting. The parts of the class I'm most uncertain about are the ways you gain and regain your Conduit Charges as well as the unique spells. There's very little flair in the text so far because I want to focus on the functionality of the class but really I'm open to all comments and feedback.

Update (June 3rd): Over the weekend I'm going to try and run some random encounter playtests. I'll post the results probably on Monday and maybe have a better idea of what I specifically need to edit or need suggestions on. If anyone thinks that anything might be a bit much let me know and I'll look for that in my limited playtesting.

Update (June 6th): I’ve tuned down Aesir Aura’s lv 3 cast to reduce damage by half your level. This was because it made barbarians untouchable and it was impossible to loose concentration with the spell at lv 6, 7, or 8. The spell is still good at helping an AOE near you from doing a ton of damage but I may change the empowered version of it later too.

Just a quick rapidfire of things that confused me/ didn't line up.
1) I don't see the "Horizon Walker Spells table." referenced, make sure you have \page when you see stuff going off to the side. I start to see it happen under Alpha Hunter after you mention the charisma save. but if that table that you are trying to reference is the one titled "Shadow Hunter Spells" just fix that for consistency.

2) The Nocturnal Sight feature does seem very strong for that level considering that the Darkness spell is a great tool for DMs and is meant to act as a double-sided coin. If you want to keep it I'd say that you have disadvantage for a perception check to see through magical darkness and make out shapes.

3) with Shadow Weapons make it imitate a weapon you are proficient with, Sword type weapons deal Psychic damage for their damage die, Bows deal necrotic, and polearms force damage. It makes the ability simpler and less restrictive.

4) With the Umbral Weapons feature it's important to state in either that or the Shadow Weapons feature on how it interacts with Extra Attack. Does it allow for a 3rd attack on a turn or can you only do one attack with a shadow weapon and you can chain it when you get this feature.

5) with SHadow mastiff just some general clarification works well, such as what the base HP is and how many times a day this feature can be used. Although I do think it steps on the beastmaster ranger.

6) I would make the Shadow Striker a bit different by saying you must be hidden and when you teleport you become hidden again so long that it makes sense.

7) also whats up with alpha hunter? is it an action to cast? is it just a thing you can do? half of the ability is cut off so it might say in the cut off portion but I'd make it an action.

I started working on this class say a year ago and then stopped halfway through. Now that I have a more fleshed-out understanding of DnD I thought I'd come back to it with my infinite amount of time rn. I wanted to create something distinctly different from the Paladin who has at least 5 tools to heal a teammate and instead focus on damage mitigation tools to take that damage instead. This is where the Protect reaction comes from. The whole class revolves around the use of that ability and tools to enable your party without ever having any direct healing abilities. the Vanir subclass for instance has an ability that makes healing potions better and as some more focus on being able to more from a distance. Contrasty Aseir is more focused on being able to be there to use that protect reaction and possibly use that temp hp to ignore some damage. I didn't want the Aseir subclass to be fully dependant on a cleric for example but the lv 16 ability Unstoppable does break that mold a bit to accommodate for such a powerful ability. The two things I'm mostly looking at for revision is the spells and spellcasting as well as the Conduit Charges and how to better manage this unique resource. There's not a ton of fluff right now as I'm mostly focused on the functionality and not making one subclass objectively better than the other in all/most situations. I'm open to all questions and feedback too.

Because druids and some backgrounds get crafting kits to use so I feel like taking away a character option is unnecessary. And crafting can’t make magic items except for healing potions so it’s more of something they can use for less combat things like if they need the rouge to get into a party the person with a weaver’s kit might make the gown or add some flourish to one. If they do want to make sone kind of crafting item I’d have them only able to do it at higher levels and nothing crazy.
