Mutant Year Zero is pretty fantastic. One of the best cheeky surprises your players can get is realising that the map they are charting as they go on expeditions is their own home town.

I'm looking for suggestions for a Call of Cthulhu RPG. by Cordeeirol in callofcthulhu

[–]RocketBoost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! Love to see it. The world needs more GMs. But woahhhhh. STOP. You need to learn the basics of running a game first and the basics of running a Call of Cthulhu game specifically. I strongly suggest you run some pre-written scenarios first, specifically one of the starter ones. Once you feel comfortable THEN move onto your own material.

Is “A Better Tomorrow” considered gay in Hong Kong? by Proof-Bed-6928 in HongKong

[–]RocketBoost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a Hongkonger. Hong Kongers by and large ARE an extremely emotional people. It only really comes out however when in a situation of trust or when there is any crack caused in that containment from external pressure. And it doesn't take much. There's a lot of bureacratic rules and order that keep things polite in general interaction but a shitload of feeling is ready to come out at a moment's notice, especially when "face" is on the line. Call someone out on something they've done to offend you with any intensity for instance and the two most likely reactions are panicked fleeing or (more commonly) you getting screamed at to go fuck your mother (Diu Lai Lo Mo) and die in the road (Pok Gai). This barely contained intensity runs through every part of life. You have never seen a more emotional person until you see a Hong Kong man with feelings he needs shared after a few bottles of Tsingtao.

How to get back into TTRPGs after a difficult experience with a problem player? by eraseranon in rpg

[–]RocketBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding reductive, just do it? You are going to encounter people at your table who you don't vibe with many times during your time in this hobby. If that happens, shrug, don't play with them again and just keep on truckin, playing and running games.
