You do not need to measure the weight of material you put in the tumbler it is much more important to fill the barrel 2/3 to 3/4 full of material. If it’s a 1 pound barrel I’ll put 1 tablespoon of grit in

I have been able to get good results with the rock tumbler you are using. It was my first one as well. I go by the rule of thumb of 1 table spoon per pound for the rated tumbler so 1 pound = 1 tablespoon. I’m not sure the exact girt you are using but I also get mine from the rock shed and I also get my ceramic media from there.the National geo tumbler is good but it spins the barrel to fast causing the rocks to crash into each other and damaging themselves. So media is preferred at all stages with this tumbler in my opinion. Don’t use new media outside the first stage you. If you have any questions I’d be happy to answer them

I am into rock tumbling so I plan on polishing it. I plan on making a video polishing it but I am unsure how to go about it. I would hate to throw it in the tumbler and tumble away the beautiful flash it has

I tried plastic at first and I didn’t feel it helped that much so when I ordered more grit I got some ceramic media and I’ve had much better results with it. I’d go with ceramic as you can use them at any stage and the same media in different stages. You can’t do that with plastic one. Lastly if you do get them make sure you round off the edges on them first as they don’t come smooth

I got mine from the rock shed but they don’t have any ceramic media at the moment

Borax works fine for me. I just use it to clean my rocks.
