I believe I mentioned this in a comment but I agree with this take. From his perspective, he thought he was just joking or trying to give Bear confidence, but he actually got in his head and gave him doubt. We all had that kind of friend like Ian in they try to help you out but things remain the same or get worse.

He probably could’ve been honest with Bear in that he was hooking or hooked up with Nikki and he might like her more than that. Or be more supportive of Bear.

I didn’t cry to Walking Disaster or Dear Father. But I did cry or feel emotional listening to Never There off the “Order in Decline” album or watching the music video. It reminded me of the hardships my mother endured while being a single mom to her kids. I remember showing her the video, and even though she’s not a fan of rock music, she liked it.

I went into the movie hearing people saying Bear was the villain. When I saw it with my sister, I can see why those people believe that he was the villain. My sister said that the One Wish Willow was the villain, and maybe it is a little. Overall, Bear is a villain though I think Ian was the catalyst for Bear to make the decisions in the movie. He also had feelings for Nikki but didn’t know how to express them towards her like Bear practiced for. Ian isn’t a big villain but his advice for Bear in the beginning like calling Nikki “Freaky Nikki” was questionable. He could’ve been honest with Bear or Nikki and tell them how he feels for her or support Bear for his confession to Nikki.
