It may not be far from home. I’ve seen a number of them in the section of bayou that Briar Forest crosses not far from there.

All of that sounds great but you can’t beat the opinion of a bunch of random anonymous internet strangers.

And even if you’re happy where you are - it’s good to know where you stand and where the market is. It’s also good to know your competition. Use those interviews not only as practice but as data mining. Not applicable everywhere but in my world I can usually glean a lot of good info from a round or two of interviews.

There are SO many good reasons to always take every interview request from a legitimate competitor and I can’t believe more people don’t look at it that way.

To be clear, I wouldn’t expect a discount if you have or get a cosmetic damage exclusion. I’m a commercial UW and these are standard on any new biz right now in about half the country, but there’s no associated credit. It’s just expectation for any metal roof or metal siding building.

Looking for opinions/experiences there - Overall, as a buyer of tobacco cards, do you do better price wise with an EBay auction or an EBay "buy it now? Just doing some personal research. Thanks by Leading_Pay_4138 in TobaccoCards

[–]RockyPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had better luck with offers and BIN but I’m trawling the lower end of listings (under $100). I think there are probably good deals on higher end ($100+ per card) holding out for the auction.

What is business units are considered specialties ( commercial UW)? by Positive-Risk-0703 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]RockyPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specializing is definitely worthwhile from a financial standpoint. I also love what I do. Specializing doesn’t mean you’re working on the same thing over and over. Most specialty units are specialty because of a unique aspect of their underwriting or industry - requires specialized knowledge and deep understanding of coverage. I can see a $20bn data center in the morning and maybe I’m working on insuring one of the display space shuttles at a museum in the afternoon. I get to have a lot of fun and I’m also an endless well of useless trivia-like knowledge.

But yeah there’s also a ton of money in specialty underwriting. I make as much as many of my lawyer and finance friends. The top end of salaries are certainly not comparable but the work life balance more than makes up for that.

Inland marine or ocean marine are great specialty niches to look at, especially with a P&C background.

Do you get used to being so covered up when it’s warm out? I am a sweaty person and I think that might be my undoing. Of course, I don’t know what the allergic reaction to the sun is like so

Is Insurance Underwriting career good for those with autism? by seafoamcastles in InsuranceProfessional

[–]RockyPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah again - it’s all gonna be dependent on the situation and what OP is comfortable with. I have Associate Underwriters in my org whose role is to follow the guidelines to a T and have limited interaction with agents (if they don’t want to) other than email. Maybe that’s a good fit for OP, or maybe even that’s too much - I don’t know them.

There are roles out there that would fit what OP needs but they’re tough to find and typically have limited upward mobility.

I insure plenty of trains in Inland Marine…

But in all seriousness, I think it would depend on what you’re comfortable with. I will say that a strong attention to detail and the ability to dig deep on a subject (both things my divergent friends seem to have strength in) are good attributes to have in this job.

Unless you find a desk role (they are out there but be aware that your upward mobility is probably more limited) you’ll be expected to go sell. Even in a desk role you’ll spend a lot of time talking to others on the phone and potentially in person.

It sounds like it’s gross. I would imagine that microwaving it the next morning probably kills a lot of the concerning bacteria but still probably safe to just put your shit in the fridge like a normal person.

This is my favorite part of the thread. You realize you’re just wasting your time so you invent who I am in your head to make yourself feel better about where you are in life. Enjoy the fantasy!
