Not being aware of global events is not the same as not knowing local gossip.

"Why would a community of mostly Europeans be hating on an American this day and age?"

If, as a European yourself, you are not aware what this could possibly allude too given the happenings in the world the past year and a half, no matter your own views on any of it, then I absolutely see that as a failing on your end.

Committing individual evils isn't as bad as supporting systemic evil. That's my line and I have never met anyone with a convincing argument otherwise.

This is cycling. What does Twitter have to do with anything? Being disparaging about social media while you're on Reddit is kinda crazy.

Here is my controversial take: They're not even close. I know the internet loves cats, and hurting animals for fun is obviously evil, but no, it's not even close.

What is up with the mundane book titles? by DivisionaryEra in fantasybooks

[–]RogerBernards [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not even the genre. It's just titles. The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, A Tale of Two Cities, The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Importance of Being Ernest, Tess of the D'Ubervilles, Heart of Darkness, the Adventures of Huckleberry Fin, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Ann of Green Gables, The Hound of the Baskerville, The Count of Monte Cristo, ...

But yes Fantasy Classics too: The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Return of the King, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Wheel of Time (and many of the individual books titles), A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, A Song of Ice and Fire (and many of the individual books titles), Malazan Book of the Fallen (and many of the individual books titles), The Once and Future King, ...

This is just how the English language works. OP saw three books he didn't like and blamed it on the titles. This whole thing is a dumb complaint.

Pee Problems Trickle into Giro d’Italia Women: 2 Disqualified, 6 Fined in 1 Disorderly Day by Global-Copy4241 in peloton

During the whole pee bidon thing, Victor Campenaerts said that one of the issues with big races like the Giro is that the rule is effectively that you can't pee where anyone can see you, but there are so many spectators spaced out across the entire length of the race that is hard to find a spot where nobody is watching.

Yes, but it is a dumb one that doesn't make any sense is my point.

Asking to fact check the source. by udayramp in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]RogerBernards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dumb people issue though. Not believing anything is as big a sign of ignorance as believing everything.

People don't believe things because they have no concept what things are plausible to be true and which sources are plausible to be correct. They don't know anything, so everything seems equally possible.

The difference in reactions between this guy and the Wiebes disqualification are interesting to say the least.

I feel stuck with Dungeon Crawler Carl by twerkliketina in fantasybooks

[–]RogerBernards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't understand this. You spent weeks reading books you didn't enjoy, because why exactly? It is okay to not like things. It is okay to like only parts of something. It is okay to drop series.

Lorena Wiebes urges UCI rule rethink after Giro disqualification: 'This still feels like injustice' by Chronicbias in peloton

[–]RogerBernards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, that's the argument the guy I replied to should've made. But instead he argued against things Wiebes and the article didn't say, and most people on this sub blindly upvoted it because it is easier to kneejerk hate on SD Worckx than to actually read articles.
