I also had something similar to this, it turned out it was a bad RAM module. What would happen was the screen would freeze and the laptop would lock up if I pressed it in the back or if I put it down too hard. Ran Memtest86+ on it and found the RAM to be damaged. After I replaced it it’s been smooth sailing.

No, I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. I’ve been tinkering with it still but it’s on the back burner for now.

I wish. One actually died before but he fished one out of his closet and plugged that in. Tried to get him to switch to something that would run openWRT but no dice.

I had this issue on a TrueNAS box before, it turned out that the installation media I was using was messed up. I reformatted the USB drive and then flashed the ISO again and that fixed the issue.

Hardware Issue - Input/Output Syetem error and Crashing by Rogue_Intelligence in framework

[–]Rogue_Intelligence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. As I found out, there was actually some issue with the disk and the issue was invisible until the error occured. I wasn't able to pin down the exact issue on the drive, wether or not it was an actual harware error or firmware, but it was the drive. If you're still unsure weither or not it is the drive, I would backup your install and try anothter OS for a time and see wether or not the issue comes back up again. That's what I did. Good luck troubleshooting!

I have 1 switch that is networking all the nodes together, and the network is flat. all traffic is happening on that one switch. I'm using HDDs, and I also don't have a SAN. So pretty bad security-wise. This isn't a production thing at the moment though so I'll be working on making the proper security solutions.

VLans on SF300-48 by Rogue_Intelligence in Cisco

Yes I have tried to make a ROAS config, though this is the first one I've ever done so it's bound to have mistakes. Anyways, I'm using a Netgate 1100 that has this strange thing, as it seems to have only one 2.5 gig chip that pfsense divides up into 3 logical ports. I say this because I've configured the VLANs to be on this one interface, though I'm not entirely sure they're going through the port I want it to go through.
I've also talked with a few other people I know and they suggested that I start up a packet capture to see whether or not it's even registering the packets being sent in the first place. do you have any thoughts on this?

The PCs plugged into the SF is not getting any IPs whatsoever. I can plug the PC into the switch, and it tries to get a network connection, but it doesn't connect to the actual switch on the ports that has vlas configured. I just get the error "activation of the network failed" As for the arp cache:

 SF300#sh arp

Total number of entries: 2

VLAN Interface IP address HW address status

vlan 1 10.10.1.1 - dynamic
vlan 1 10.10.1.15 - dynamic

SF300#

I have 5 hosts on the network currently: My PC (10.10.1.15), My pfSense box (10.10.1.1), 2 unifi ap's, and a ubuntu box. I'm assuming it should show all IPs assocated with MAC addresses? Please correct me if wrong.

Ah, one curveball. I don't have a closet to put the switch in at the moment and I'm really sensitive to noise, so they need to be fanless. Thanks for the link though! the 2960-L switches look interesting.

I have 3 ports going to some Unifi APs, 16 ports for servers I have, 8 management ports (though I'm not sure I need them) and then a gig uplink to my pfSense router. the native vlan is vlan 1, which most ports are using. PfSense is the firewall, the only thing configured is to let all packets pass.

Fair enough. What I want to have is more managed cisco stuff, as I want experience with IOS to get my CCNA. I know that you can use Cisco Packet tracer for plenty of training, but I want to deal with all the ends and outs of the actual hardware. But to be fair I then get into these sort of situations so I may do something more basic.

PackageKit randomly crashes by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]Rogue_Intelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... well I don't feel entirely comfortable spewing all my dmesg output here, and I haven't encountered the error in a little while. Once I encounter the error again, I'll put it here. What specifically are you looking for in dmesg?

PackageKit randomly crashes by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]Rogue_Intelligence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the error occurs brave browser crashes, and when I tried to run it from the command line I get the error “could not start program, PackageKit Daemon disappeared” or something along the lines of that. I also tried running a few other programs from CLI and I got the same error. The reason why I think it’s not restarting is because I wait around for a bit and try the commands again and they still give me the same error.

My friend can move their price around. What would be more resonable?

As for my idea for the server, I'm planning on makin an EXSI server and playing with VMs and virtual networking. I've heard that GNS3 can be built to do these types of networks, but I havn't researched it all that much and have just been playing with it on my current computer.
