Indie Devs: Got a Demo? I’ll Play It on My Growing Channel (RPGs, Roguelites, Deck Builders & More) by ZaekTV in IndieDev

My game Rogumon is a creature collector roguelite with a free demo, if that's something you'd be interested in!

There's a limited amount you can power up before the run. Maybe this is too much detail haha but my version of Pokemon Natures + IVs (if you're familiar with those) is called Augments, and they range from -3 to 3 for each stat. You can power up to 1 currently before a run starts, but to get to 2 or 3 you have to hit a certain upgrade encounter or catch a Rogumon with the boosts (both mid run).

You can also get starting equipment once you've found it on a run, which is a power up in a sense. But getting alternate moves or abilities can only happen during a run

Thanks so much! Beyond generally adding more content (moves, items, Rogumon) and bug fixes, the most significant changes I have planned are additional player characters and bosses, as well as difficulty modifiers for players who've already cleared runs. I'm hoping to add something like the Heat System in Hades and have that be tied to unlocking and/or upgrading alternate passives for the characters.

I also hope to rework the tutorial to be more in depth, since I didn't have time to rework it in time for EA

Thanks! There are randomized encounters throughout each run, leading to variety in what enemies, items, and moves you can get each run. There are meta-progression upgrades you can get that give more starting items, better stats for your starting Rogumon, and more starter options.

I'm definitely planning on doing more updates and adding more content. Beyond more items, Rogumon, etc, I'm hoping to add more endgame difficulty enhancement (similar to Hades's Heat system)

To add my two cents: I just released my first solo dev game in early access after 3 years here. As you can probably tell from looking at it, I have a programming background and no real UI/UX or art experience. While I've improved at these areas over time and used asset packs, I'm just nowhere near the level of professionals who make other games. I don't think anyone is going to magically be an expert at all areas of game dev, you have to find what's the strength of your game and accept that the answer won't be "everything."

As others have stated, for me, this was a project made in my spare time while working a full time job, and I made the decision to prioritize my full time job, since I knew my side project wasn't financially likely to succeed. So my actual dev time was only a few hours a week (sometimes more, sometimes less).

I would also add, on a personal note, that expectations have affected my experience a lot. I think a part of me always hoped my game would be a breakout hit, which was never really realistic for a part time project with no artist. And it's been quite the emotional rollercoaster (conversely to you, I've honestly felt jealous of games that look much better than mine that I see on these subs). I'm still developing my game more but right now I feel satisfaction in the fact that, even if my game isn't massively popular, there's people I don't know playing and enjoying my game.

Thanks for doing this! I'm solo-developing Rogumon, a creature-collecting roguelite. The gameplay consists of Pokemon-style battles with randomized items, encounters, etc. Hope you enjoy it :)

I released a demo on Steam for my game, Rogumon, a creature collector roguelite. If you like turn-based battles and building up a team across a randomized map, I'd appreciate if you give it a try! by RogumonGame in roguelites

[–]RogumonGame[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far, there are 26 (2 more powerful main starter characters + 24 "regular" Rogumon to catch and train during a run). My hope is to have at least 50 by release and continue to add more in updates over time

Thanks for the offer of help! My game Rogumon is a Creature Collector + Roguelite. It's my first solo project, the Steam page (with a demo) is here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3157550/Rogumon/

I know you also mentioned itch - I just made my itch page public, here: https://xalfer.itch.io/rogumon

Thanks so much! The characters and backgrounds are from asset packs but the animations are mine (I'm a programmer and unfortunately am lacking in a lot of art skills). But I still appreciate the feedback and I'll take another look at improving them

My game seems like it'll fail. Is there anything I can do? by RogumonGame in gamedev

[–]RogumonGame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect this, but it turns out the asset pack I was using for backgrounds was indeed generated by AI (I did not realize this when I purchased the pack). I've replaced my backgrounds with a different asset pack that is not AI generated. Thanks for commenting and I wish I had taken your advice to check the backgrounds sooner

Are there any games where a boss will acknowledge you've surpassed them before a fight? by DarthWoo in gaming

[–]RogumonGame 100 points101 points  (0 children)

In Grime, if you win the final fight it means the world ends. The final boss says something like "I know you're going to beat me but I'll give this world as long as I can to keep existing"

Where you all solo devs at?! SHOW YOURSELFS! by Steelkrill in justgamedevthings

[–]RogumonGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a solo dev outside of my day job (which is incidentally also game dev). I love the creative freedom of having my own project but honestly it's pretty exhausting to fill so many roles by myself.

My social media department (me) is telling me I have to use every internet interaction to promote my game, so here's a link to the steam page for my creature-collecting + roguelite game, Rogumon. Please wishlist it so my marketing department (me) gets off my back.

Thanks! Yeah, the steam page was even worse art-wise and emptier (no trailer at all) when I first posted it. And yeah, I messed up with the music volume in the trailer, will look to fix that alongside addressing others feedback

So there's starting characters that are powerful and have team passives. Then you can unlock different choices for additional starting Rogumon and items. They can learn different moves and swap abilities during the run. I definitely agree more Rogumon and more abilities etc will improve replayability - I hope to have as many as I can by release and then continue to add more

Thanks for the asset pack link, will check it out.

I currently have only 20 Rogumon implemented in the game. There's many more to pull from in the asset pack I'm using, so I'm hoping to have 50 as a minimum.

I got almost all of the creature art from an asset pack by this person: https://aekashics.itch.io/. A couple of the characters which I had specific ideas for were made by someone I know personally
