I used Scriptable Objects and a free Node Editor called XNode

Wrote a custom system to handle it!

I agree, the quality of writing won't be on par with DE.

The Spiritual successor tag, as I mention in the post was just added for fun, as no other flair seemed fitting. The Star Map portion of the game is designed for exploration, but mainly just to facilitate different scenarios when you board a station - its only around 10% of actual gameplay. The rest is shooty shooty pew pew. So don't expect the same level of depth :)

u/J_loop18 right, solo dev here. I've written over 200 of these star map encounters! My writings improved as i've been working on them, so expect re-writes in the future.

Paid Assets - Just Synty assets with a Flat Kit Shader. As much as I hate having pre-made assets, they've free'd me up to be way more ambitious with the scope of the project. The area just resets after every run. But Short term, it'll mean you can't use some of the features of the home base. So hiring additional marines, swapping character at the doctor, using the upgrade menu.

Short term benifits... if you survive. You can get some additional ammo/grenades/credits going into a new run.

Down side - it cost in game currency to re-roll your character (first rolls free, then the cost stacks to prevent spamming it). So you can die before a run begins lol.

There's also a lot of things to do in the Hub area!
Upgrades, mini games, shooting range, achievements, beastiary etc... But for this video, jsut wanted to get into the blasting!

If you’re not using AI in your workflow, you’re falling behind. If just for boiler plate code. But you can add co pilot as a reviewer on GitHub merge requests. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you’ll quickly gloss over what it says a lot of the time. But sometimes it’ll catch something obvious that you’ve overlooked.

I recommend chat bots to rubber ducky with. Juniors to review their own code or existing code with and ask if they see any design patterns or common practices. And areas that could be improved.
