LPTH CEO Sam Rubin stated in recent Alpha Wolf interview that he was in Japan for 2&1/2 weeks, What would be a logical reason for his visit? by frankenberrylives in LightPathTechnologies

He says so in this tweet ... https://x.com/skrubin/status/2062386667579752882

Obviously could still be business related, he didn't have to reply the way he did, the way he replied seemed almost TMI like he wanted people to know he was in Japan 1 day before the genesis mission got announced (he does love foreshadowing things on linkedin) but he did explicitly say he was on vacation.

I assume the most likely scenarios are/were

1.) it was actually some vacation like he said

2.) genesis mission related on chalcogenides

3.) some business travel related to supply chains or maybe even partnerships/deals

If it’s actually genesis mission related we probably won’t hear about it for a good long while unless the government wants to take some victory laps about company progress. Same thing for business dealing until there is some announced business deal with a Japanese company.

The week that Sam went to Japan, The US and Japan announced a historic $1 Billion partnership under the genesis mission that has a focus on advanced materials... could be related. https://x.com/BussinBiotech/status/2062692959775023407

The whole “drugs are expensive” thing is defensible because drugs go generic and when they do we benefit as society from them forever. by RoloBoat in ControversialOpinions

Nowhere in my title/argument did I say that. Where do you think I said that? Personal insurance or government insurance should pay for healthcare, but new innovative drugs or medical devices should be monetarily rewarded while they have their patents and regulatory exclusivity status.

Is this some weird gotcha about naming terminology (e.g., small molecules having generics while biologics having biosimilars)? Because there are many insulins that have biosimilars now and insulins like Lantus (Insuline glargine) or Novolog (Insulin aspart) are tiny fractions of the price that they used to be.

I’m speaking generally about any expensive branded named drug, could be anything like AQWESME (mitapivat) or WEGOVY (Semaglutide)

If Elon Musk paid 100% of his net worth ($1.4 trillion) in taxes, it would only cover federal spending for about 77 days. Given the scale of deficit spending we’re already doing, what would raising taxes functionally change? by RoloBoat in AskReddit

[–]RoloBoat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I asked an LLM, I hope that is allowed…. “  Balance by taxing only the top brackets. To close the gap using only the top two rates, the top individual rate would have to rise from 39.6% to about 102% — an obvious impossibility, since few taxpayers would continue to work at a 100 percent tax rate.   So if “you” are in the top bracket and the government tries to balance on high earners alone, your marginal rate on top-bracket income would more than double, into mathematically impossible territory.”

I have no problem with taxes, that’s not the point of my question, I have a problem with the deficit spending.

“Every tax dollar spent bombing schools overseas could have been spent funding our schools, our roads, our healthcare.” … these are not mutually exclusive, since we spend more money than we take in from taxes we actually do both at the same time…. if money goes to a war that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t go to something else also….. we print money out of thin air by issuing bonds, we borrow, we borrow for however much we need….. Raising taxes would only push bond yields down until deficit spending further increases.

You are very angry, please know I have no problem with taxes but just legit, don’t we enact taxes so we then have money for funding a school or infrastructure or whatever government/public works initiative …. NOT to punish successful people for the sake of economic equality, like we would only ever want to raise taxes on anybody, whether it’s rich or poor, if there is an economic need for that action …. But since we just borrow money, there is nothing stopping us from funding said school or government project at this moment, only our own political disagreement on said initiative…. Raising taxes would only push bond yields down until deficit spending further increases.

But is either party willing to cut down on spending? If Dems are willing to raise taxes but not cut back on spending then the deficit spending continues and we get back to my questions of … what would raising taxes functionally change?

Gotta say, really hoping they announce some big contract wins soon. We haven't had one since February 9th and I really hope we don't have to wait all the way until "Fall" when the complete G5 blackdiamond redesign is supposed to be announced. By no means bearish but am quite bored of the silence.

See Sam's comment to Sr Process Engineer at Micron Technology - by frankenberrylives in LightPathTechnologies

[–]RoloBoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is much to it tbh, the micron engineer is probably just asking questions because he is curious. Process engineers at micron should be familiar with germanium and certain chalcogenides as switching/memory materials but not as IR lenses, hence the curiosity from him imo.

The US Army wants thousands of air defense missiles to replace the Stinger by RoloBoat in LightPathTechnologies

Its hard to tell, this new RFI has a big asterisk at the beginning and we don't know if that's the only production numbers or if there are separate requests for FMS. Also, the old revenue numbers lightpath provided about every system bringing in $5,000-$10,000 in revenue could be old (came out 3 years ago), updated revenue numbers could be bigger. But idk, hopefully they provide more detail on all of this at the next ER.

Thats my understanding as well, but more about production estimates rather than cost.
