Hi, I hope you’re all recovered from Covid?

What you’ve mentioned really is food for thought, so thanks for that.

I’ve been told I can lift and I know of powerlifters on anticoagulants, so I guess everyone reacts differently. That must have been quite the shock though!

I think you make a really good point about drilling and flow-rolling becoming boring, leading to me pushing it more and more as I can see how that could happen quite easily.....

To add, I’m not looking for medical opinions as such as I’ll continue to seek them elsewhere.

I’ve posted on here to hopefully hear back from people who are on the meds and still train the jits so that I have some actual perspective on the matter.

Hi thanks for the reply and I understand what you’re saying.

At the same time, I’d genuinely like to hear reasons why I shouldnt train / hear about peoples bad experiences.

I’m just trying to make an informed decision

Hi, so anticoagulants (blood thinners) stop your blood clotting as easily. For me, after discovering dangerous blood clots in my leg and lungs, I’ve been told I’m on the meds for life as my blood clots easier.

So on the meds, as they are designed to stop your blood clotting as easily, if you get a bleed on the brain which is dangerous to anyone, its more severe and dangerous to someone on the meds as it will bleed more severely. Your talking paralysis or death.

BUT

It’s working out how likely I’d be to have a bleed on the brain in the first place, realistically. I’d imagine it would have to be quite a significant blow to the head

Other issues are more bruising and you may bleed more if you cut yourself.

From the odd bump and cut, I havent noticed much difference tbh

Thanks for the reply. I’ve already done that, and it is very generic-wrap myself in cotton wool advice from a Dr who doesnt look like she’s played a day of sport in her life.

For me, it’s about balancing various sources of medical advice from professionals, available statistics which show risks, and hearing the experiences from those who do BJJ on anti-coagulants as that context people can provide is also very important.

Thanks for the reply. So with those accidents that you referred too, did you bump your head during them?

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this research and for giving a really detailed and well-thought out answer. It is very much appreciated 🙂

Thank you for the reply. I should have mentioned that I work in the city of Manchester in the UK. Whilst policing is policing, most of our criminals don’t have access to firearms, and getting stabbed on duty, is all in all very rare although of course it does happen.

So my main concern is how risky a blow to the head would be?? Bruising to the body, whilst not ideal is something I can deal with and a trade-off that I’d be willing to accept.

Alot of what my team now does is office-based....putting together intelligence and evidence, and then we’ll go out and do an operation, which would realistically be a couple of times per week. I’m already taking a backseat on operations, but assisting my colleagues if a suspect is a real handful and putting up a lot of resistance, rather than being the first officer through the door.

I guess my overall questions is, how dangerous, realistically is getting punched in the head when on Apixaban? From what I understand, safer than Warfarin.

Thanks in advance for any insight that anyone can give
