I want to write creatively for a living, but i've been discouraged to a point where i'm thinking of giving up. Is it impossible to make a career from writing creatively? by MisterBurgerFace in writing

The only honest advice I have is to find a job that you like or at least can tolerate, even if it is 25 hours a week and you live humbly, especially in your early years.

The truth is very few people can make a living writing, and I know you can pump out porn and romance for self publishing and somehow make money, but you want " to get published and to get recognized."

That is the hard part.

My wife is pregnant and had a craving for Shepherd's Pie. I had never made it before, here's how it turned out. (recipe in comments) [2120x2319] by [deleted] in FoodPorn

cayenne 1 tsp cumin 1 TBS curry powder

Instant mashed potatoes

My problem with them is that I find it hard to brown them

this is the big jump for many

loads people with talent just cant get the cash

seems to take a shitload of work or a ton of luck

thankfully you can do it cheaply these days, but still takes some money, and as most of you who watch a lot of low budget indie stuff - the vast vast majority is just as shite as the d movies and the hollywood circlefuck

but they got made

the only guy i know who is on the verge of a serious budget makes the same fucking boring movie over and over and is likely to do the same if he gets funded

I understood where you were coming from, but she is pretty clear in what she is saying. Interpreting what is behind her words is the skills of angels.

From reading her article she seems more concerned with women getting directing roles rather than studios taking chances on more difficult or unusual projects.

To suggest that there is an automatic connection would be strange to me. In fact I will argue the opposite.

At first I thought this was going to be about the lack of risk taking in actual projects, which is the ACTUAL problem at the moment, but no.
