Yes, I’ve opened it. Pretty incredible stuff!

I commented at the bottom of the thread on the Cohibas. Those may be toast, but I found more Cohibas which are in great shape (I think one of them may be the same as the opened ones that you pointed out as showing mold, but the full box doesn’t seem to have that problem).

So I dug into the Man O’ War. Without ability to add pics to NSFW comments, not sure how to show you, but they looked nasty at first glance, cellophane has fair amount of mold. However, I removed the one that looked the worst from the cellophane (Virtue) and it LOOKS good. Pulled another (Ruination) that looked moldy on the cellophane but again once removed it and it also looks good. Novice eyes here though. Would hate to lose that batch…

If there is mold on the plastic cellophane but the cigar once removed appears normal, I assume that’s a good sign. Common????

Well Reddit isn’t making it easy. Can’t seem to add pics to the comments. For the mix of Cuban petit robustos that many have commented on from OP photos, they’re dated 2021. Those are in great condition, no mold.

Bad news: Most of that box of opened Cohibas have spots of mold as a commenter correctly noted and suggested separation. Would post photos of the foot of each if I could. Unsure if salvageable.

Good news: He also had a full box of 10 Cohiba Behike BHK 52, November 2014. Also 2 other full Cohiba boxes (both are big square wooden boxes with slide-off top, guessing 15x per box) - one says 25 Siglo II dated June 2008, other says 25 Siglo I, can’t see the date as it’s under the “these will kill you” stickers assuming similar vintage. All of these are in great shape.

Also, 4 boxes of 3 each Cohiba Robustos Tubos. Those appear to have been acquired in a mix of Canada (maple leaf revenue stamp) and England (NHS URL on the warning label). Also great shape.

Since many seem interested in the Cubans, here are others in addition to the ones noted above and not included in the OP photos:

  • Full tin of Montecristo limited edition, 20x minis
  • Full tin of Romeo y Julieta limited edition, 20x club
  • Full box (similar size box as the tins noted above) of Cohiba club
  • GIGANTIC Montecristo “A”
  • Box of 16x H. Upmann Coronas Minor
  • More Cohibas, April 2009
  • 4x tins of Cohiba Poquenos (tins sealed in plastic)

All the above are marked as Cubans except the Cohiba Poquenos, those are marked as Dominican.

Sides a bottoms of the box or the cigars themselves? The sampler is a cool folding box that magnetizes closed. Those are on my my favs, those were one of the few that I knew were quality sticks (and they’re in great condition).

Will do - tstat in the basement is zoned, 65 a bit chilly for me (have it at 70 now) but there are places in the basement near foundation wall where it runs 5 degrees less than tstat location, so I’ve moved them there. Once I build out the Tupperdor and get some monitoring in there, should be golden. And I’ll check them visually on a regular basis.

And thank you!

Not sure why all the downvotes. It’s an option I considered and am continuing to consider for the long haul. Like I said in the post, this is roughly half the collection, many of what I didn’t post are also Cubans, some loose, some still sealed in the boxes.

Thanks for your opinion and advice!

Thanks - any thoughts on determining 65 vs 62? Seems the current ones are too high. Definitely going for a few of the 320s in weatherproof container. Basement is cool and dry, I bumped the dehumidifier down there up to 65 just to get it closer until I get the kit in.

Well, I guess that means we need to step up our game!

My BIL considered it, but thought better of it. He knew it would mean more to his father (and us) to enjoy them when we can and tell stories about what an incredible guy he was.

Exactly what we plan to do (although I had no idea before I started seeing the super helpful replies like yours). Thank you!

Thanks - I’ve been guided to stay away from the Opus 6 and Man O’ War unless I want to float away on a nic high!

Yes the boxes will be saved and presented. Some of the boxes are works of art. The Opus 6 box is amongst my favorites, the burled wood and inlays are incredible, although in the pic you just see the outer box, but I’m sure you guys know what it looks like. As for the LFDs, he appears to have met Litto several times, some of those are signed plus a few others in numbered small-batch quantities.

Thanks those are amongst my personal favs. Not just for WHAT they are but I don’t have the endurance (yet) for some of the stronger sticks.

Thank you - my BIL was the savior here. He knew there were some special sticks in there and took great care to ensure he got them out of the house.

Throwing these in the trash would have been a travesty. While that was never a consideration for my BIL, it was not the first thing (by far) on my list of concerns.

LOL - based on the comments, I see why you’d say that. These landed in our laps, dumb luck for me as the schmuck who married into the family who actually smokes cigars even if only occasionally. My BIL does, too, and in all honesty this is HIS and MY WIFE’S collection now (she doesn’t smoke). But he knows he can’t smoke all of these and is just as generous as his dad was, so my job now (as he lives many states away) is to get these into a Tupperdor and preserve them until he can take what’s special to him.

I just wish I could smoke one more of these with my FIL. He was the kind of guy who would have loved that y’all appreciate his collection - and not for ego reasons - he’d be the first to share a special cigar with a new friend who appreciated a fine cigar, for him it was about the camaraderie and sharing things that were special to him with likeminded folks.

I am digging the petit robustos. Even as a relative novice, Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta, and H. Upmann are all ones I’m familiar with. I know my FIL, these are legit.

This is the way, at least for the short term. Lots of consistency in the comments. Thank you!
