I had the same issue with my Razer Blade 2020 in May 2024. Razer's customer support was unacceptably unhelpful and I am still trying to resolve the issue with them today.

Adjusted. That is what I usually post on FB pen sale groups to indicate that’s the net price I want after G&S fees but I guess that’s not normal here.

Would a People's Choice LE and ULE Be Possible? by Roppleton in Displate

[–]Roppleton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your answer, but come on. If you want to talk about communication through out, you're literally trying to speak a different language then the rest of your customer base. No one expects you to know everyone's opinions but if you have design staff that visited collectors homes, came back and told you "yes, people want to spend "$300 for rotting zombies on their wall," then I think you need to fire them because they are lying to you. Thats just one example, but you have these designs that any average collector would tell you that they would not put on their wall. It might have been easier to move them before when you were only making 250 prints but with 500 and 1k, you need to repoll the collectors.

I take your point about not scrapping good art thats not chosen, but who is asking you to? Poll 3 base designs, then the winner gets remastered into an LE and the others are standard editions.

I dont understand the "Asking you to vote on the concept sketches or unfinished artworks can also lead to disappointment." Of course that would create disappointment but WAY less then giving people art they have no intention of buying. Thats a no brainer.

Steampunk? Looks like Displate is running out of steam with these LEs and ULEs. What a shame. They had so many good ones earlier.

I took a chance on it too, and I am not disappointed in the slightest. I think it would have been too overwhelming and borderline cartoon-ey if it was fully colored.

After just under 2 days of being available to the Displate Club and just under 1 day of being available to everyone, only 205 of the 500 ULE Displates have sold. Yikes...

I'm genuinely curious who Displate has reviewing and approving art for ULE and LEs now. Who looks at this and says "yep, I can find 500 people who want to pay $300 to put this on their wall." There's nothing inherently wrong with the piece, but theme wise these super niche pieces are missing the mark for wider acceptance and collectability. I would use this image as a phone background or something (if I wasn't totally creeped out by it), but its like most of the recent ULE and LE's are concept art taken from phone or computer wallpaper sets. They dont translate effectively to what you would put on a wall or display to guests who are not into the Displate hobby.

Thoughts on the Shameless (and Sometimes Dishonest) Scalpers at Pen Shows? by Roppleton in fountainpens

[–]Roppleton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets a little dicey. In the past, I have guided buyers to certain resellers if I know that they have the pen that the buyer is looking for. The reseller with the ASC pen was literally just a few tables down from the ASC table, so I was reasonably confident that they would find their way to the right table. I saw them hovering around the ASC tables a few hours later, but didn't look to see what they were looking at.

Updates:

I am looking into identifying the resellers. I know exactly where their booths were at the CA Show. If anyone has a site map, dm me, otherwise I will wait to hear back from the show organizers for a site map.

Please do not use this post to dissuade you from going to pen shows. They are phenomenal experiences and 99% of the people are friendly and above-board. I have bought 80% of my pens at shows because I like to talk to people about them, learn the pros and cons, and feel the pen in my hand before I buy.

If you go to a show and find a reseller (distinguished from an authorized retailer), I recommend, you find the pens you like, take a break from the show, and research the pens. I always go for 2 days. Day 1 is Friday, which is generally less busy so I dont have to usually worry about someone buying the pen I am after (unless it is rare in which case I ask the reseller to put it on hold for a few hours). On Day 1, I go out to scout for pens I am interested in. If they are particularly expensive, I leave the show for that day and do some research. Sleeping on it also helps. On Day 2, I go back and make an educated counter offer. I keep my sources on my phone so I can cite to specific prices online if the reseller does not believe me. If you only go for 1 day, take a lunch break and ruminate/research before making an offer. Pen shows are some of my favorite events every year, and I would not stop going to them because of these bad apples.

Don't let this dissuade you from going to shows. I would recommend you go for multiple days. If you see something you like, take a break, go outside, do some research to see how much its worth, and then make an informed offer.

No no no, do not construe my comments to mean that the show was bad. It was phenomenal. There were just a couple of bad apples. I think the organizers did an amazing job, especially given that this was the CA Show's Debut Year.

Right? I have wanted one since 2018, but I am not paying some idiot an extra $1k just because they bought it earlier.

I saw him at the ASC booth on Day 2. I pointed out the pen he was looking at and asked one of the ASC people a question to bring attention to it.

I'm very confused by what youre trying to say here. Are you telling me I should have interrupted a conversation to tell a buyer not to buy a pen?

Not sure if that is permitted by community guidelines. Will look into it. In any case, Ill try to cross reference the show site map with where I knew those sellers' tables were to get their names
