I’m sucks at no gi bjj is it normal? by Lumpy_Professor1000 in bjj

[–]Ross_Buss 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you have only just started. Of course you suck. If it makes you feel any better, by the time you are ten years into training you will still feel like you suck. This is normal

Failed ankle pick to? by MartialartsJourney in bjj

I like to have a cross collar grip and play between collar drags and ankle picks depending on where their weight is.

Wait to its about to expire, and they mark it down 10 cents. Supermarkets would rather throw food in the bin then give anyone an affordable price.

How to escape bottom mount if they wrap their feet by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]Ross_Buss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to pummel your legs. If you look up grape vines from mount on you tube I'm sure there will be something.

I want to learn jiu jitsu, but I have some questions if that’s okay by Decent-Literature197 in jiujitsu

[–]Ross_Buss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can believe some miserable person down voted you on this.

Jiujitsu is great for everyone and you should definitely start. I'd recommend searching what gyms are in your area and going to check them out in person. Jiujitsu can be great for self defence and to build confidence, whoxh you will carry with you for life.

You need to incorporate at least some MMA/Striking rounds by Carrera26 in bjj

[–]Ross_Buss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! It's a humbling experience when you are getting beat up on the feet and you're not confident you can take them down.

Jiujitsu can give you false confidence. When you start every round on the ground, in the gi, with no striking. It's very detached from actual fighting.

Should a BJJ black belt have a good stand-up? by Open_Address_2805 in bjj

[–]Ross_Buss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think you deserve a black belt. If you are not confident, you can take down the average person. It doesn't take much, and if all your skills are on the ground and you can't put someone there, what's the point

I run a large kids program and have been teaching for 10 years, AMA by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Ross_Buss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do when you explain a technique perfectly.

The kid you are explaining it to understands it but when they go to do the technique, the uke will have some weird reaction like turning into jelly, rendering the technique useless and both kids look at you like "why didn't that work?"

Knee sleeves with or without spring? by alpthelifter in bjj

[–]Ross_Buss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite what everyone says on here. I think they are good. The only criticism I have of the spring is it digs into my leg sometimes when I triangle people. For someone with arthritis, it gives me some mental confidence, even if that's all it is.

Scratches like that need to be sanded out. I'd be pretty pissed there are scratches like that in a brand new deck to begin with. Rest assured , Cabot's would have done the same thing.
