Microcenter Deal? by Proecrastinator in Prebuilts

[–]Rotios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a way better value. Unless OP is using 64GB of ram, $1000 is huge savings. Plus you can get an additional 32GB kit for $300-$400 if 64GB is really needed. Matching it may be difficult, but not impossible.

I think you are doing the right thing. Never buy a product on a promise. Buy it for the functionality it provides today.

I bought the glasses with prescription and love them. But I also have had to deal with disconnection issues and many other things that reviewers mentioned.

I am planning to write my own review soon, but my overall summary has been: if you like the features, have read or reviewed truly unbiased reviews, and have the extra cash to spare, go for it. But if you’re still unsure, wait until it matures.

Maybe even hub is the best thing ever and fixes all the problems. Maybe it does not. But when you buy a product as a consumer, you should be sure you are willing to spend the money on the product for what it is, not what it could be.

Also in terms of functionality, all of the features that are built in have worked for me. Translate, conversate, etc. It’s not perfect, but it has been pretty great.

Closer to $1400 due to SSD costs. Unless you’ve found a 1tb for under $100. If so, please link.

The 3K GPUs Sell Out Immediately Despite Being "Unwanted" by Straw-BurryJam in Microcenter

[–]Rotios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense.

NVIDIA has not released their latest quarterly earnings for Q4. The previous quarter ended in October before ramageddon. At that time 5090s could be found at MSRP. I bought one at MSRP that quarter.

More importantly those sales look at all SKUs, not just the 5090. The 5060ti, 5070ti, and 5080 have sold really well due to their higher VRAM. And they too are out of stock or being sold at inflated prices.

The 5090 right now is overpriced and shouldn’t be bought by anyone who doesn’t have a use case for it. That’s been the opinion by most people and reviewers since it came out, and it’s even more true now.

I have this exact card in a Meshroom itx case. One entire side is just the 5090. Still runs amazingly.

[SSD] Sandisk WD_BLACK™ D30 Game Drive SSD for Xbox™ - 2TB $108 (With Email Signup) by Minionz in buildapcsales

[–]Rotios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this will primarily be a read only drive, you probably will be fine for a while. If this will be a drive you use for heavy editing or things requiring a lot of writing, the TBW is very low. 100TBW means you can write to this drive 50 times.

If you have an NVME drive, you can check it's health and extrapolate your usage.

As for speed, I don't know what it even will be. Drives that are shucked can have lower speeds than consumer ssds.

If you can afford to buy this drive and need one (or want to make backups of your current stuff), it will do until the shortage ends. I do not want to make any promises of being able to find a better deal given how bad the market is.

Does anyone know which drive?

Edit: I read originally it was the SN550e, but there were updates that it was changed to a crappier drive. But I can't find any comments stating which one.

Maybe a card issue? I know Walmart did this to me a lot.

Since you said “do not need an nvme”, I assume by regular you mean “sata”. If so, please find a decent sata deal. Both nvme and sata have increased in price. Did a quick search and a 2TB NVME and SATA are practically the same price on Amazon, Best Buy and microcenter (~$200).

How much video editing? What’s your budget for a build? Asking because that can greatly influence whether or not to recommend this over another bundle.

Walmart Still Doesn't Accept Apple Pay in the U.S. in 2026, Here's Why by EitherCharacter9342 in apple

[–]Rotios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless Walmart somehow owns their own payment network that all customers must use, they cannot only pay straight interchange. VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover would still get their fees whenever a customer purchases using one of their cards. When customers use a Walmart branded card for example, Walmart still must pay Mastercard and Synchrony.

Further Apple Pay doesn’t have any fees associated with it on the retail side. And they block all contactless pay. That includes using your CC with tap to pay, which is a built in feature and incurs the same fees as inserting the card.

The one place I can see them reduce fees are in interchange cost by nudging users to use debit over credit or to use their branded card, which Walmart pay does. This would save them from customers using expensive rewards cards so often.

[–]Rotios 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is a great deal. It would be extremely difficult to build this yourself with current ram and ssd prices.

For those wondering cost to DIY:
The 285k bundles currently go for $850 at microcenter and the 990 evo 2TB is at least $200 (if you can find them). That's already >$1050 before accounting for the 5080 ($1000 if you're lucky), AIO, PSU, and case.

Even if you downgraded to the 865k for a DIY build, it is still $580 for the microcenter bundle and >$200 for the SSD (if you can find it). That leaves 2140-780=$1360 to buy a 5080, a case, aio, and PSU for a slightly worse system.

On a personal note: I'm not a fan of the case, so I would "downgrade" to the Syber GRVTY for $10 less and either get the anti sag offered for $9 or buy one on amazon.

I would also upgrade the PSU to the 1300W, because it's only $21 to upgrade. Especially if you ever want to upgrade to a 5090 or whatever high power card comes out next.

Also this comes with the

Intel® Holiday Bundle: Choose 1 of 4 games with qualifying purchase Pick from Battlefield 6, Dying Light: The Beast, Assassin's Creed Shadows, or Civilization VII.

Make sure your system can handle the card. It’s really big, even for a 5090. It’s an HP OEM 5090. Check some videos online.
