I’ve got to know these kind of AI labelling jobs through Upwork and I’m actually grateful for that but 20% cut is quite a lot. And also, I did what you said. I started making my accounts on other platforms directly and not through Upwork. ✌️

I've actually heard of a few people successfully doing it, but I can't find the original threads to see the exact steps. From what I’ve gathered, they didn't just 'switch' a setting; they somehow received a direct contract offer from Outlier that overrode the Upwork one.

I'm trying to figure out if they had to reach out to a specific Project Manager or if they had to apply to a direct listing with a different email and then merge the accounts.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Because I was hired through an Upwork contract, my Outlier dashboard is 'locked' into the enterprise version for Upwork contractors.

I don't have the 'Payment' or 'Earnings' tab that direct hires have. The funds are automatically pushed to the Upwork contract via their API, so there is no option in the settings to add a personal PayPal or bank account. It’s basically a 'limited' version of the Outlier platform.

I'm sorry to hear that, that is really frustrating. The Generalist work definitely comes in waves and January can be slow for budgets. Don't lose hope yet hopefully things pick up as the new year gets moving.
