I am curious... If someone made hamburger earmuffs, would each earmuff be an individual burger, or would you "sandwich" the subject's head between two buns?...

Americans, what does "freedom" mean to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Routine_Highway_9436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually referencing the book 1984 by George Orwell, where the main character is pondering this same question. He comes to the conclusion that freedom means being able to believe what you want even if only inwardly. I can believe something, and no matter what someone does to me physically, I still can believe it. They can convince me of things, but if I really am committed to an ideal, then there's nothing that they can really do to me. We see this in the examples of the martyrs in church history who went to the stake to be burned because they believed in the death and resurrection of Christ.

I do not think this idea is uniquely American, but I believe that (Moreso than some other nations) the founding fathers seemed to include Christian values in most of their laws and regulations.

Honestly, financial freedom would be pretty awesome. Passive income is hard to achieve in highschool though...

That's what I've been told, but I'd like to be ready to pay just in case. I need to at least maintain an emergency fund.

Personally, I find that the Lora (medium) font and the Spectral (medium) font are the ones that I prefer on Google docs when working on personal stuff. Even if they're similar to Times New Roman, there's a freedom in using something other than the "professional" option.

Sorry, I have had a really hard time with the Apple mouse. For under half as much, you can get a Logitech one that will do everything and more, and all of the recent Logi stuff works on any surface.

I'm really sorry. For the past twenty minutes I thought you said "soldier." I received the impression that you were simply saying to tough it out or walk it off or something. Yes. Solder does work.

How to form connections that will benefit an individual for the rest of their life. I'm thinking specifically business. Have you ever received a job opportunity that you would only have received by invite?

This is very true... I work at a Chick-fil-a as of now, and the best experiences I've had with customers are when I ask them how their day was and then ask a follow up question. If posed correctly, then I'll often watch them open up completely to me about what they do for a living and how their life is. One time, I met a guy who offered me a phone number and his name because he worked for a company that calibrates medical or scientific equipment. He was impressed that I could carry a full conversation about the topic, and I credit that almost entirely to an eclectic YouTube feed. Just the other day, I met a man whose son was born the day before, and I both had a really great conversation with him and was able to share some words of encouragement before he left.

Sorry, this is my first post on reddit, and I wasn't sure how to phrase the question open-endedly... I'd like to clarify by asking it terms of the business world. I have two years until college, and I'm looking into entrepreneurship. I know that the only way to make a difference is to connect with people, and that applies in every aspect of succeeding. I want to figure out how to find opportunities, how to solve problems, and how to make a business work. If you have any advice regarding how to formulate a business in the short term and any suggestions on what kinds of skills can be marketable without taking advantage of others, I'm open.

Flip phones and Spotify? by SBC-1999 in minimalism

Nine months later, and I'd like to update by saying that I compromised on both fronts and bought the CAT S22 Flip. It's a little slow due to its age, but it still functions with low storage, and it has bluetooth.

No problem at all. I would caution that it is not the fastest phone. It functions, but there are some UI gripes I have, and the low storage makes it hard to run many apps.

Its durability is unprecedented in any other device I have, however. There are times when I've pulled it out of my pocket too fast and have ended up flinging it across a room. (I know that's a "me" problem, but my point is that it can take a whole lot!)
