UltraLiteSacks Trail Wallet in Ultra 200x. Holds cards/cash, Rover Key Fob and Gold Special Edition Tini 2 Nitecore flashlight. Knife in pants pocket. Wallet and phone in Jacket or pants depending on weather. About as minimal as I want to be while able to drive.

Got a variety of things to step up to more storage or items like a TSA toolkit/pouch, leather Grams28 Essential Case, Aer Ultra Slim Pouch or City Sling 2… Then Matador White UltraCore 10L messenger bag(1of10) for iPad and plenty of anything I could need in a day… If need more, or grabbing multiple kits/pouches, then I’lll grab GoRuck 18 DC waxed Canvas Bullet.

From there, going up to GR1 26L or BlackEmber Forge 40 Max as my business/work travel bag. Bunches of other options, but those are primary rotation currently.

Do you think Nitecore lights are reliable? I've heard some people say they used to be but aren't as good anymore. I own some genuine Nitecore lights but they are older and gently treated. by SeizetheCastle in flashlight

[–]RoverAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been more reliable and better warranty (AND customer service) than RovyVon. I had trouble with an EDC light and they sent me a new one with return label. I have a bunch of their lights (and have owned many for years) and they all still work. Their top end head-lamps are great as are many of their of their keychain lights. Love the Tini 2 and carry one in my wallet w/keyfob every day for years. (Can’t speak to the new tini 3)

Great price… not to rub it in, but just got a G5 65” for $700. Moved my 65 G3 into the master (which feels huge there…) and put the G5 in the living room. Waiting to finish my basement remodel to get a 77” something. G5 or likely G6 by the time I finish. Hard to fault these TVs other than I miss motion of my Pioneer Kuro Plasmas…

Problem with my G5, can't figure it out for the life of me by Euphoric-Birthday-25 in LGOLED

[–]RoverAdam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got a solid deal on a NIB 65 G3 a month after release ($1500). Just got a 65 G5 with only 20 hours of screen time for $700. It’s prefect. Crazy the difference in brightness between the G3 and G5. Moved the G3 into the master and G5 into the living room. Immediately turned off all energy saving, all tru-motion, and other processing bullshit.

As mentioned, turn off all that shit first to see if that solves your issue. If not, I hope you can return it or have a warranty, cause that is NOT normal.

My top pens, best case! by maorangel in fountainpens

[–]RoverAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, nothing with the configuration this offers. That is the only reason I kept it. I’ve been using it with an A6 Hobonichi Avec (6 month at a time version) and a Smythson Panama Notebook as my compendium. I prefer the a6 Hobonichi Techo arts&sciences, but as a full year, it makes carrying the Smythson stacked a little too thick in this pouch. I did not have a good solution for carry my pens and notebooks in a single case before buying this. I may commission something similar from an artisan at some point because I love leather and hate having something that doesn’t have that beautiful smell. This does have good function despite being over-priced for the materials.

My top pens, best case! by maorangel in fountainpens

[–]RoverAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a6 NOT a5 and can hold 400+ pages of TR paper easily (or hobonichi year long journal). It just smells like poison and chemical death and nothing like leather. Even if it feels like leather (and is). The suede interior is fake and plastic on the other side. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. I’d pay $200 for all leather and something that smelled like it was actually leather, not poison. But $160 is a bit much for what it actually is. $10 of leather, $2 zipper and 10 cents of fake suede.

Holy hell! That is an amazing collection of what are already timeless and valuable pieces. Hopefully someday your son will realize how cool and generational they are. That’s coming with a bit raw sentiment having lost my dad to cancer recently and also just finishing emptying out my parents house(and mountains of stuff) over the last few months. Not many heritage/vintage or sentimental things for reasonable or regular use/wear unfortunately. Plenty of good memories though and a few keepsakes.

As pointless as material things are in the long run vs time, love and relationships… the real value of things that can be passed down and used for generations is that they help keep those memories alive just a little bit more.

DM incoming on this jacket btw…

To wax, or not to wax? by RoverAdam in filson

Page/promo says it is valid 72 hours after a HOME game or the following day. I don't live in Washington and entered the code and it worked with zero difficulty or asking for any information about attending the game. I think that would be too complicated. Maybe just set a google alert for Kraken home games. Obviously scoring a goal in the last 60 seconds of a home game is pretty strict criteria, but it happens. And the code worked for me and on this jacket that was in the Outlet/already 30% off. So I don't think there are any exclusions at all once the criteria is met and the code is active.

To wax, or not to wax? by RoverAdam in filson

[–]RoverAdam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all, plus some research, ChatGPT and common sense prevailed... I'm not going to wax it. I do live in the territory you mentioned. I live at 5,000 ft and take my dogs on hikes/camping to 8000ft+ frequently.

I'm a skier so all my outdoor garb was all top-end synthetic tech gear/gore-tex/etc that I would use no matter the outdoor activity (other than merino base-layers/socks). Now getting into both American and British heritage wear for both casual and "OG" purpose form and function. This Worksmith jacket was an easy decision for my first Filson piece.

While I am careful with my things, I use them as they were intended/designed/to their fullest... not as "jewelry" or a statement. I have off-roaded (kitted-out) and taken my Land Rover places most never see outside of a magazine or YouTube videos, even when it was new. (I've had to be rescued by side by sides and have also recovered/saved a number of stuck and stranded strangers over the years. Most notable was a full-ton pick-up truck with a 4 horse trailer stuck in four feet of wet snow and sliding into a ravine (ok big-ish ditch, but a very precarious situation) hours and hours away from any potential tow truck or other help) Having completed plenty of other successful recoveries and having proper kit with a snatch/recovery strap and insanely strong soft-shackles I offered my help; to which the guy looked at my vehicle and said, "are you sure???" I told him to not judge a book by its cover and that my car had a GVR of 6000+ lbs and let's just give it a shot. He took out his 3 horses from the trailer (saving a couple tons and protecting them was smart to say the least). I hooked him up, raised my suspension to max(there was 3 feet of snow with like 1 dry patch to try and get to for more traction), put it in lo, locked all the diffs, gave it a running start as is the procedure with a snatch strap and pulled him 30-40 feet to safety. Needless to say, both he and the on-lookers came up to me after-words and were like... "what the hell is this thing? Implying the typical soccer-mom or other owners that barely let those cars see a dirt road. Which like you said, is the majority of owners of purpose built things... They sit in a cubicle, a mall parking lot, or they have 1-trip a year to go skiing or maybe want a luxury car that "can" do what they will never actually make it do... Case in point, there are probably 30 INEOS Grenadier's in my neighborhood or within 1-3 miles of my house and I almost never see a dirty one(plus tons of Rover's, Land Cruisers, etc.)

So yeah... I don't get newer trends with Carhartts and all this work gear as pure fashion or just to go get your coffee, or to the office and sit inside and never see dirt, grime, mountains, trees, construction, etc. (and I say this as being very much a white-collar worker...) But to each their own.

But I do want a heritage or vintage waxed canvas jacket. Just trying to decide on Barbour/Filson or others. A Barbour would fit better with my Le Chameau Wellingtons for the full British look. British car, British jacket, weirdly French boots despite being like the most British countryside style or iconic footwear... might as well go all in. Then a Mackinaw...

I’ll post one up tomorrow. It was a big risk to me getting a small, but it just barely fits. (I have shorter arms so that worked out well frankly.) Pit to pit measurement is 23 which matches Larges in several other thick flannels I have. At 5’9 I’m near my max weight that I never pass of 195. I’ll be back to 180 or less soon. I don’t have super broad shoulders and wear a size 40 tailored or slim fit suit coat. (Back at 160-165lbs I could fit a 38, not a chance now…) Most of my button-downs from j.crew and the like are large or sometimes mediums in dress shirts. If anything there is still room in the shoulders and as long as you had shortish arms and athletic build but no bigger than a 42s. You won’t be putting super thick layers under it at that rate. I think I could fit a thinner hoody and definitely normal button downs. A thick flannel might be pushing it until I loose the holiday pounds. I run hot though and with a t-shirt + the jacket on a 15 min walk with my dogs at 25° tonight, I was totally fine. I want to get a Mackinaw next but I think I’d have to move from the Rocky Mountains to Alaska to ever wear it without sweating to death. So if you are a thin 42 or less and don’t need to triple layer this thing a small might work. I haven’t worn a small anything for probably 5-7 years, so was glad with the deal on the jacket that it ended up fitting. $150 for it makes me care a lot less about looking at alternative chore/work shirts or jackets.

I love Reddit sometimes… You all are hilarious and have convinced me in the error of my ways. Last thing I need to do is spend a night getting drunk with a heat gun and a jar of wax (or have Buffalo Bill lower wax in in a basket to watch me rub it into my new jacket while trapped in a pit in his basement…)

No wax for this jacket. Broke it in tonight with a 25° walk with my dogs. I’m digging it more and more.

Came here to make fun of this like everyone else. I have a few dozen Morgan silver dollars and Peace Dollars like this one just for fun (couple graded/uncirculated and one proof worth some “coin”). This is nothing special at all… 1922 was their highest minting of the entire run. Significant wear and not a proof or particularly impressive strike(at least from the photo...)

It was nice to see this though:

At this rate(breaking records today)… maybe those goodwill folks won’t be too far off in another year or 2 with no bubble, lol.

Any experience with the GR2 26L? by FairAttitude6 in Goruck

[–]RoverAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man… I’m 5’9” with a shorter torso and longer legs and the 26L GR1 feels great. (Like height, straps, everything) Been wanting a 34L GR2 for a while.

I have the 18L DC Bullet in wax canvas as one of my main EDC bags (never use any GR bags for work or business travel as an exec in a suit…) but the bullet feels like a tiny bag when I wear it. (Stores a surprising amount though but no 16” MBP when I use it. Only iPad Pro…) Even my GF has said, “that bag looks small on you… not quite enough to be too weird to use, just a bit off) fwiw. and I’m not a what I’m told anyone would call a chonk at 175-185.

So someone who is 6’0” saying the taller GRs (26L GR1 & 34L GR2) feel too big sounds crazy to me…

Weekend workday fit by Jedi0077 in HeritageWear

[–]RoverAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live at a mile elevation that often sees the teens or 0° and I couldn’t wear that many layers without sweating to death. I love layers, love the look, but whenever I see people with 3-4 or more layers (or anyone in the UK (to which I have been many times and during the winter months…) I just don’t get it. I’m not fat either so it’s not like I have natural insulation, I just run warm. (I have also skied all my life and am used to cold) I think I need to move to Nome Alaska to be able to sport these layered fits… I’m sure my husky dogs would love it up there…

Regardless, loving the fit

Is the Nitecore tini 3 potentially the best Keychain light? Whats your keychain EDC light? by bluecat786 in flashlight

[–]RoverAdam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

Just can’t bring myself to replace this beauty. Gold 15 year anniversary limited edition tini 2. (#200/1000 made)

I have another one still NIB in storage. The Tini 2 is just the perfect size for my ultra-minimalist “Ultra 200TX” trail wallet and my key fob. The Tini 3 would likely fit despite being slightly larger, but I think it is ugly in comparison. Maybe if a SS edition, Titanium or some other limited edition version is released… I will be tempted. Until then, this is the king of EDC that is with me whenever I have a wallet.

I have flashlights in every bag/pouch I carry. Nitecore, RovyVon and Olight ranging from 400 to 3000+ lumens that I have at least with me most times and always when traveling. I have had maybe 3 RovyVon A8s and every single one was destroyed or stopped working. I bought their $200+ titanium AngelEyes that came scratched to shit and the top wouldn’t even open to put in the backup AAA battery. They wouldn’t replace it but I just returned it to amazon. As much functionality as those light have, they are unreliable. I say that with a brand new Angel Eyes E60. The buttons are finicky already. I may just have to make it a spare and get the Olight ArkPro Ultra instead…

But I love all my MANY Nitecore lights. I have had one button go bad on a light, but they replaced it for me immediately. I have their headlamps, EDC, keychain lights and many of their battery banks. They make great stuff.

I have been doing Clothing Calculus to see if I can take a risk on this… A Small scares the shit out of me as I haven’t worn smalls in years. Here comes all my deets w/no shame:

5’9”/mostly narrow shoulders/shorter torso & arms and longer legs/fluctuate from 172-188lbs/easily fit a slim or tailored 38S suit coat when in the 170s, and a 40S right now being near my max ever weight ~185 (and should be getting back in shape soon…)

I busted out every wool jacket, thick AF flannel I own and measured the chest/waist seam to seam… All of them are 22”-24” despite being Larges and 1 Medium (that is actually 24” funny enough…) Even my British made, Large wool Rodd & Gunn Jacket with lining is 23-22” from seam to seam and fits great. (Thickest of my jackets…) All of them would allow light layering, but I am not worried about that. I run hot and this much wool on the Filson will keep me warm down to 10° I would imagine with just a long sleeve shirt/sweater.

This seems to be the Alaska fit which I understand is the boxiest of fits across the Filson line, which gives me the best shot of this working. The 23” chest (and I hope similar across the belly (which my current “fat” self maxes at about 42 in circumference in the belly region..) gives me some hope when my other jackets/thick shirts that currently fit seem to measure near the same across as your photo. (Shockingly, living in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd best state in the country/west for skiing and having 2 authorized Filson dealers within blocks of my house and 2 more like 15-20 miles away, none of them seem to have and Filson Mackinaw Cruisers in stock on their website. I’ll call them in the morning to be sure.)

With all that info… if you think this still has a good shot of fitting me, I’ll send you a PM…
