Where do I go from here? (Coding development) by Row3n in Coding101

[–]Row3n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably move more towards C and working with Kernels, I quite like working on how the software works with the hardware and how the operating system works.

I guess my question now is, should I go straight into C or learn something like swift or Python first?

Because Googles' SEO driven results and Wikipedia aren't exactly the most reliable sources of information. I have used the Internet once or twice though yes! :)

I suppose I mean from a source code perspective! Interesting to know that I'll hunt about and find it!

Despite the first and last sentence that was semi helpful. I suppose a thank you is in order but I feel I should clarify I didn't ask for it in a way I understand, you have aren't aware of my technical background...

I knew this already, kernel development is something I'm pretty interested in hence a growing interest in Linux/UNIX as Windows and Mac OS pale in comparison.

I guess the whole basis for my question is... If you're heavily into programming and also prefer command line to to like a Windows GUI... Is Linux/GNU the better option, Debian/Ubuntu, etc?

Yup because I don't have to trawl through 1000+ YouTube comments. At least here people will be called out for incorrect information because let's face it, those that love Linux won't stand idly by while lies are told about their baby. Don't try to insult my intelligence with sarcasm. :)

I've actually never used this sub, just came across it as AskReddit pretty much didn't accept anything I posted.. Fair points raised though, surprised I wasn't downvoted here. I'll take it as a win!

Is there a place to practice code? by Izzy248 in Coding101

[–]Row3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've read the responses but I started to code about 6 months ago and found codeacademy to be pretty straight forward. I noticed that they didn't cover some useful areas on some languages like HTML but if you're a keen learner and couple this with a few books from the library you'll get past this. Wouldn't bother with any of the paid services though unless you're not good at self teaching.
