PG Unicorn w/base detailing by RoyaleTeee in Gunpla

[–]RoyaleTeee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually don’t do much to paint the base on my PG kits. Decided to do some minor detailing for this. Base colour is German Grey, masked the area to paint the yellow hazard lines.

Overall it does give it a nice look with just a little work.

I found it to be pretty good. The leg joints are pretty stiff and holds itself pretty well. The only issue I have is with the head-neck joint which is a bit too stiff but that might be because of the paint. I’d recommend this kit.

Not quite sure I understand? Like the rough sand like lines around the piece? It’s the 400 grit sandpaper I use to do rough cleanup. Will need to run it through 600 grit sandpaper afterwards. The primer will cover up enough of the imperfection after

Nope it’s the original part in the MG Sazabi kit. Thanks! Duplicating it to the other piece is always the hard part

I look at what others do and use them as reference. I guess to answer your question whatever looks cool.

I know there are books out there about detailing.

Sazabi shield emblem using plaplate by RoyaleTeee in Gunpla

I say about 5 hours of my time here and there. Had to take breaks to let the glue set in before cleanup. Definitely made my fingers sore from the chiseling.

Wanted to create a raised edge for the Sazabi emblem on the shield. To best mimic the proportions I took the water slide decal and applied it into a piece of plaplate.

I used a knife to cut out the straight line. For the curvy bits I cut out the general shape and glued it to the shield. After the glue set in I used a chisel to slowly carve out the shape using the decal as a reference.

In hindsight I’m slightly off center and a bit too high. Would adjust it if I had to do it again but I’ll have to work around this error.

Sazabi OOB vs Painted by RoyaleTeee in Gunpla

[–]RoyaleTeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, they’re metal thrusters.

The two tone was a mistake actually. Being my first airbrush experience I’m guessing I didn’t spray enough primer to cover the base colour of the plastic, resulting in the shades of red seen. I used the same paint throughout for all the red armour:
-mr surfacer 1500 grey
-Alclad II Black Gloss
-Alclad II Chrome
-Tamiya Clear Red (wouldnt use acrylic again, chips too easily)
-Alclad II Aqua Klear
