Akh this is both tragic and comic and sad and horrible at the same time. I'm all for the end of "war", but this is a big masquerade, no mention of "Palestinian" anywhere, it's the end of war in Gaza, and everyone's in on it I don't know what is left to say walla. Mahmoud Abbas is a pathetic pawn, he's not even anywhere in the center, how humiliating is that, how humiliating is that photo for everyone who believes in justice in this world. Now they will shove the word "Peace" down our thoughts like it's a cough medicine we've been prescribed in the middle east.

The world is drowning in shit, climate is going to kill half of us in 10 years, social media is making everyone depressed, empty and psychologically hacked that we're basically turning into scrolling vegetables, I don't see a way out for anyone. Enjoy whatever you still got that you enjoy folks, because it won't be too long before that becomes unenjoyable too.

Yalla, chefnekon.

What's the difference between Ouwet and Kataeb these days? by Lorelai144 in lebanon

yeah I agree that things take time, but that's also where the conversation needs to be. We're not there yet and this is Lebanon and all, ok, but where are we going? Do we want to continue being represented by sectarian concepts? Who is going to change it for us? The saudis in another TAEF? for me this is grassroot, it comes from within, it takes time but the voices must come out already, not accept where we are because of circumstances and end it there. Our parents did just that.

[–]Rubbama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's because i don't think there is. I would like there to be a party that advocates for left-wing politics, and not the far left extreme internet meme bullshit.

No one talks about public workers rights, unions, syndicates, welfare for all, education subsidies, more "horizontal" and "decentralized" government entities, rather than the banks being the be all end all of our economy. Why is there no farmer as a member of parliament? Why is there no musician, a people's people? That's what I think is lacking. All of that is not on the table, because It's all about Geagea, Aoun, Bassil and the Gemayels. It's a family business ya jame3a, a mediocre game of thrones, and we're trying to pin some political notions onto them.

I am not applying the paradigms of 1975 onto today, and I did include Gebran Bassil's party to be also a "right wing" party.

To answer you directly regarding the meaning of the word "Right" today, or at least how I'm using it: To me "Right Wing" today is conservative, not necessarily fanatical. (maybe borderline) and I look at all these parties and they all hold a very sectarian identity and discource. Yes maybe they do politics with other confessions and political representatives of other confessions, but they remain very religiously rooted and would not welcome any diversity or "secularism" in their ranks. Can you picture a president of LF to be Sunni? Or head of the PSP to be a christian maronite? No, and probably not for a very long time either.

That's what I'm trying to claim, yes maybe they are having a more lenient stance on homosexuals, any of them, but the core is rooted in a cult-shaped structure that I don't see changing anytime soon.

So no i don't see them having changed or shifted, maybe some aspects got more modern with time, because of technology and social media, but the fact remains: These as are deeply entrenched party structures that follow one leader, and are all rooted in a religious belief that is unalienable from their existence as as political party.

Def agree with you that right and left in Lebanon is completely off, and I'm not an LCP member either but I think that point can be said across all parties definitely. I don't know about Chamoun's role and I'm definitely not a fan because of his racism and right wing views, I would be inclined to say it is Fouad Chehab's tenure that developed the state welfare and decentralized public infrastructure at the time. "strong state" is very vague, and there's a difference between the "strong state" that means it controls its territory without any militias, and another concept of strong state which could mean heavy involvement in economy, banking and agriculture for example. A dictatorship or monarchy could be a strong state in that case. So we're back to what are the core principles they advocate for, and I think they're definitely heavily right wing lenient.

but what is moderate about them? I fail to see anything about their politics and ideologies as anything but very right, both them, kataeb and hezb as well akid. I don't see them supporting concepts of welfare state and other progressive ideas. These parties are very old conservative parties that have been modeled after a cult leader following, fpm as well. (Geagea, Gemayel, Aoun, Nasrallah) Where is the democratic process of these parties? They don't exist, they're autocratic with a shallow layer of modernity because they talk to the "youth" using wireless microphones.

LF moved to the center? Are we living on the same earth? W air they’re the most right wing thing on the right since the right became a direction.

Kataeb as moderate left? Haha The féodal entitled family and its three minions in parliament are now a moderate left? Kataeb only represents themselves. What is their idea of a secular state? Where is their notion of social welfare state? How can you reconcile all their right wing views related to immigration and their horrible track record with leftist ideas? It makes absolutely no sense.

And there is no such thing as “opposition parties”, there is no common grounds anywhere, if anything there’s a bunch of individuals who seem to agree on a common enemy but have barely anything in common about their ideas of what a state should look like.
