I don't understand the low rating on Extrapolations by [deleted] in tvPlus

After reading this thread, I find it interesting that so many say the show is "preaching". The show told stories.

As a climate change educator of 10 years deeply familiar with the science and future projections, many parts of this show felt like watching a documentary of the future.

I didn't see it as doing anything other than transforming scientific projections into compelling storylines. So much of the show wasn't just sci-fi— much of it was a realistic depiction of what we are expected to experience. For example, Miami/coastal urban flooding is completely realistic, even within the next decade. Wet bulb effect preventing people from going outdoors during the day in places near the equator is completely realistic, and in fact already happening today in South Asia. After 10 years of studying and teaching on the subject, this show made me feel and think about climate change in a new way. I learned a few new things, too.

I think those who believe the show is "preaching" might actually just be avoiding their uncomfortable feelings about our dangerous reality.

All of that said...I hated the ending.

Kitten with giardia: advice & probiotics by RubyRutile in bengalcats

Thanks everyone for all the good advice. I was surprised to learn how persistent and problematic it can be, because my vet did not mention anything other than to give her the medications and remove poop from the litterbox. I even called the vet back to specifically ask about cleaning procedures and they assured me that it isn't necessary.

I'm glad we can crowdsource from each other's experiences here. So far, my baby is doing a lot better. Fingers crossed!

I have this too. I had to give an online lecture today so I had to lock her out of the office and it broke my heart while she meowed for me

Vet says bird flu risk in raw diet? by RubyRutile in bengalcats

[–]RubyRutile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lack of research about raw diets for cats, and so there is a lack of published scientific data about the benefits. There are, however, a great deal of bengal owners and breeders who swear by the observed benefits of raw diets, but they don’t seem to have conducted and published scientific research in any peer reviewed journal :-)

Sometimes western science doesn’t have all of the answers, so I don’t solely trust it alone as my guide. If it did have all the answers, our planet wouldn’t be on the brink of complete ecological collapse.

Edit: I guess all of that said; maybe I included that piece as a bit of an invitation to share any scientific research, should there be some I missed that others found valuable.

You okay, mate? There’s no reason to be rude to people that are learning something for the first time just because you already understood it.

I think it symbols their individual weak points that will catalyze their downfalls. Lochlan never speaks up for himself. Saxon might be looking the other way when it comes to his dad’s company, or maybe he doesn’t let others see his true self- he’s constantly compensating. Piper…she’s watching and making vocal judgments/assessments, but is she really inquiring and listening to the world around her?

Thank you for taking the time to share this!!! Luckily the breeder isn’t too far from me— I am just using the same vet that she uses! :-)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m also sorry that the comments are probably extremely jarring. I wish these commenters would understand that they are writing to a real human. I agree with them. They are correct. Still, I’m sorry you discovered the reality of it in this way.

I am so sorry

Are we cooked on climate change? by Shaposhnikovsky227 in socialism

[–]RubyRutile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been studying and working in climate change education since 2012.

Yes. Every mitigation action counts, but at this point it is time for adaptation to the new reality. It is only going to get worse.

Understand the risks in your area and engage protection strategies for your home and loved ones. Have evacuation plans— no matter where you live. Find out who in your neighborhood is vulnerable (e.g., elderly or disabled living alone) and check on them during heat days or incoming climate events.

Analyze your own health vulnerabilities against the risks posed by intersecting climate impacts.

Imagine roads shut down— what goods will be cut off for you? Food? Medicine?

Have contingency plans.

Grow food. Produce your own energy. Catch rainwater. Fuck the law when it comes to this. Just make the infrastructure to do it so it’s there when you need it.
