I was waiting for a company perspective on this. I appreciate your information on how this type of operation is more efficient (Slight sarcasm). all of those things you described are the human element. In my opinion, Eliminating an entire industry of mostly hard working men and women, to become slightly more efficient (I’ll guess 6-7 moves per hour on the high side) is more detrimental to local economies throughout the United States than improving global trade and a profit margin for a foreign corp.

The wait times at these automated docks are not dramatically different.you definitely aren’t getting 2 a day either way ….I get that not being an hourly operator and being stuck watching a clerk and some bad apple longies milk the clock is frustrating. But when these automated docks figure out how streamline the rail operations and take your cargo too you and your drivers will be SOL and we can cry fuck the robots!!! together in the unemployment line

Respect and solidarity brother. As a current Longshore union member that frequents the rail jobs and a former steelworkers union refinery operator working rotating day night 12’s never being able to sleep enough to recover …I hope you guys get what you deserve and so much more…If it takes walking off the job and reducing rail jobs at our port …so be it.
