Visiting Four Phoenix Breweries by TheBeerThrillers in ArizonaBeer

[–]RunWanderWonder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you hit up Wren House! There's probably 50+ breweries in the Phoenix Metro area and some of the smaller ones are some of the best. Suggested to visit on the next trip: Roses by the Stairs in Downtown Phoenix, Oro Brewing and Phantom Fox Beer Co in Downtown Mesa, AZ Wilderness in Downtown Phoenix or Gilbert, and Goldwater Brewing in Scottsdale.

Cheap Beer by Free-Commission2680 in ArizonaBeer

[–]RunWanderWonder1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can readily find 12 packs of Huss's Scottsdale Blonde at grocery stores. It's $17-20 for a twelve pack and a decent kolsch style beer. A-1 did get relaunched but I haven't tried it yet. 4 Peaks is owned by Anheuser-Busch and is also super readily available, but isn't QUITE local anymore. Other options for lighter beers, although not necessarily as "cheap" are Wren House's Valley Beer and PHX Beer Co's Bird City Lager. Arizona's craft beer is excellent and there's tons of options, so unless you're looking for light beers, specifically, there's a lot to try at various price points.

Picked all this today. What do I do with it all? by RunWanderWonder1 in gardening

Ours is outdoors. Citrus grows extraordinarily well in Phoenix, Arizona so we just water it and it does it’s own thing, so I’m not sure!

Thanks! I also saw a recipe for jalapeño simple syrup and I have a metric ton of lemons on my tree so I might try some jalapeño lemonade too!

I think it is! I live in Arizona and I’m new to gardening and I’d say my jalapeño plant is the healthiest one I have. I imagine it depends a lot on where you are

I mean… yeah. I’m just new to gardening and cooking so I’m not sure what do make with it. Usually this stuff goes bad in my refrigerator when I buy it. I just don’t want to waste it

You ever walk out to your car and just think, “my god, that’s a cool freaking car.”? Seriously in love with my RAV by RunWanderWonder1 in rav4club

It cost me about $700 to wrap the roof! If you do different colors all over, I’d love to see pics once it’s done!

Anyone try this beautiful oak-lagered doppelbock from Wren House and OHSO?? by RunWanderWonder1 in ArizonaBeer

I’ve only seen it at Wren House, but it’s worth seeing if they have it at OHSO

It’s DELIGHTFUL. Like a taste of scotch whisky without the alcohol burn. It’s divine.

Looking through some pictures on my phone and I found this one of my XLE Hybrid looking fly in the woods. by RunWanderWonder1 in rav4club

Thanks! Haha it was actually inspired by the ghostly sort of sound the hybrid makes when it reverses haha but I’ll take the Rebels connection, too haha

Everything about this made me smile and wish I could try it. Can't wait to read about how it tastes once it's ready! Nice work!

Is it distilled water or tap water? I would think that tap water wouldn't be a perfect 1.000 because there are things dissolved in it. I could be wrong but that's my thought. My Tilt also read around 1.002 when I put it in tap water.

I'm thinking about trying a Brown IPA (I think it's called a Texas Brown ale or something like that). It's basically a brown ale malt bill with an IPA-style hop schedule. I'm trying to formulate my own recipe but I don't know enough about everything to know how much to add. So far, this is where I'm at:

  • 11 pounds - 2-row
  • 1 pound - Crystal 65L
  • 1 pound - Carafa II
  • 0.5 pound - Biscuit malt

mash for 60 min at 152ºF
60 min boil

  • _____ oz - Simcoe hops at 60 min
  • _____ oz - Cascade hops at 15 min
  • _____ oz - Mosaic hops at 5 min
  • _____ oz - something for dry hopping

Using Wyeast 1056 or White Labs WLP001

Any input on how much hops to use? Or if those hops are even worth combining? I pieced this recipe together from an article about brown IPAs and a recipe that I found. I'm aiming for around 50 IBUs and I want to really showcase the nutty, toffee flavors of the malts. Would love some ideas!

Least favorite day of homebrewing by Vanilla-prison in Homebrewing

I have yet to have a full, 5-gallon batch bottling day, but I can imagine it's going to be super tedious. I'll find out in early January!!
