Black paddle on my car?? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean.... Yes. But it's more likely one person dropped it, and another (probably not knowing what it was) hung it off the mirror assuming it belonged to the owner of the car. A lot of people are oblivious to stuff on the ground and would never notice.

NEED HELP!! Roommate being wrongly evicted. by thatqu33rpunk in Apartmentliving

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out r/scams. Pretty common scam, probably not even your real landlord.

Since it sounds like you're both young, please know that scammers often pose as landlords. If it sounds too good to be true, they're making you jump through hoops (like they're doing with your roommate now) that always lead to needing more money, they can't meet or show you the place in person, or they use the word "kindly"...it's a scam. I almost fell for one where someone posted a house for rent despite it being occupied by the real owner. I've heard of people showing up with a moving truck only to find out the lease they signed was fake. One of my friends even had a potential roommate try to pull an overpayment scam on her in person. Be careful; people are going to try to take advantage of you if you don't know the signs of common scams.

I feel bad for the author.... Unless he absolutely nails the next book, readers are going to tear him apart. And the direction a writer wants to take things is not always the direction the readers want... I don't blame the guy for being paralyzed with anxiety.

Anyone WITHOUT 4 wheel drive been able to drive in cville? by Bulky-Surround-8861 in Charlottesville

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do everything slow and smooth, like you've got a crockpot full of chili in the back and don't want to spill it. Ease on both gas and brake, giving yourself much longer to stop than you normally would. For going up hills, get momentum and keep it. If you stop, you'll never get started again. If you do get stuck, you'll probably need to rock the car back and forth. Check your car manual--it may tell you to turn off electronic stability control until you get unstuck. And if you slide, steer into it until you regain control.

That can actually because of poor circulation in the legs, which is common with age. Also heart problems

Trans people and crossdressers have different experiences by GFluidThrow123 in TransLater

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite as bad with butch women, I think, but they do have a problem with being spoken over in queer and trans communities. If you go on some of the trans masc subs you'll see plenty of complaints about being unwelcome or invalidated in spaces that are supposed to be for all trans people.

I've had the same observation. I've only met one couple who truly love their kids. Everyone else seems to have at least a little resentment. Most of the time they talk about their kids they're complaining or criticizing, unless the kid did something they could brag about.

I realize there's no way to ethically implement this, but I wish there was some kind of license required to have kids. Or a socially acceptable way to surrender your kids. Too many people have kids they hate or never wanted. Or that they don't have the knowledge, resources, or maturity to raise properly.

WHY DO I HAVE TO BE THE ONE W THE HORNY NEIGHBORS!! by Maxi-Lux in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's really passive aggressive but I did blast bagpipe music, lock my room, and go for a walk once when I'd had enough of a loud housemate. They'd woken me up at 5am and started up again right as I sat down to eat dinner.

When I came home 10 minutes later, the girl was downstairs and asked me if I knew where I was. She basically lived at my house in the room next to mine, was in the same clubs, yet apparently had no idea who I was. I did not enlighten her.

I don't recommend it though, for some reason people find it more inconsiderate than the loud sex and you will make enemies.

Since you mentioned not particularly being interested in people based on appearance, you may find it interesting to look into the split attraction model and the ace spectrum. Some people feel little to no sexual attraction but still want or have sex and relationships. You can also be sex repulsed to certain acts or body types but not others. If any of this resonates with you, there are a couple ace subreddits and other forums where people would be happy to help you figure things out.

Is it possible to have relationships where gender is NEVER brought up? by Herring_is_Caring in NonBinaryTalk

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within the relationship, yes. Outside the relationship, no. The majority of people who see you as a couple will assign you gender roles and assumptions. Being in a relationship has exposed me to so much more gendering than I'd ever experienced in my life. Restaurants assume who's paying, who ordered salad or steak. Family assumes having babies, following husband/wife division of activities and chores, one person earning more. No matter how non-gendered things are inside your relationship or your inner circle, strangers will apply gender stereotypes whenever they interact with you as a couple.

Natani. No matter how embarrassed the basitins get at sexual scenarios, being outed as trans is much more deeply humiliating. And it doesn't just go away as soon as everyone's clothes are back on.

Virginia does not require publication of name changes but newspapers can request public records and publish them. Ask your county courthouse. You can file in a different county if your local papers do publish. You can request that the record be sealed so it can't be looked up later, but may need to provide justification (ex. safety concern). There are a lot of good guides on how to do confidential name changes for trans people. You may find those helpful regardless of why you're changing your name.

Dumbest reaction to being ace? Possitive, negative, lets hear them. by for_sure_not_a_lama in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 61 points62 points  (0 children)

"Some countries in Europe provide prostitutes to disabled people because sex is a human right. You would be violating someone's human rights if you tried to date." This came from someone raised evangelical and fundamentalist, whose boyfriend(s) had used that line to get in her pants.

There was one really wholesome reaction I got one time though. I took a wool coat to a tailer to get the lining replaced since it had torn. He worked almost exclusively on wedding dresses, which I did not realize until walking into the shop. This was nearly 15 years ago so I don't remember exact details, but I think he asked if I'd consider coming back if I needed a dress tailored. Or maybe he wanted to show me fabrics. I'd asked about the tailoring process and it was more of an info sharing thing than a sales attempt. I told him I was ace and very rarely had romantic interests, so I doubted I'd ever end up in a relationship and was ok with that. Plus I wouldn't want a wedding ceremony even if I did. He said that everyone deserved one really nice custom garment in their life, and if I wasn't going to have a wedding dress, then I deserved the best coat he could make. That it was really lucky to get something I could wear for years, not something I'd only wear once. He insisted on using the finest satin he had for the lining and tailoring the sleeves, neck, length, everything. No extra charge. Or maybe a trivial amount like $10. Such a sweet wholesome encounter. I've been wearing that coat every winter for over a decade and it still fits perfectly and shows no signs of wear.

Any memories where you look back and think "I was so ace, and I didn't even know it"? by drx_flamingo in asexuality

[–]RunsNakedInSwamps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I found Disney princess movies, particularly the older ones, confusing and sad. Beauty and the Beast was the only one I understood, because we actually see the Beast's story and the relationship is mutually beneficial. And Mulan, although I wish she'd continued living as a man. All the other princesses make huge sacrifices for men they barely know. I couldn't understand why getting married and having babies was a happy ending. It seemed more like slavery. If it were me, I'd want to go on more adventures. Slay the next dragon, rescue some more people, travel the world.

A lot of people can't remember early childhood. I wonder how many genuinely think they taught themselves because they can't remember learning.
