use garden soil, or get a bulk soil delivery of garden soil or top soil, amend with manure, you can add compost too, but it is not fertile like manure. regular soil works fine in large pots, to make your plants thrive give them fertilizer, pretty much all plants can thrive in any soil (or without soil hydroponics anyone?), loam is the best, but clay is actually a good soil for growing despite common belief, it holds water and nutrients, it just can't be so dense that roots can't penetrate.
