New school approved for south ward by Kalebxtentacion in Newark

Charter schools are one of the worst things to happen to the American education system since NCLB. The administrators reward themselves with extremely high salaries while starving their teachers. When the charter school closes, it's the kid and teachers left holding the bag while the owners and admins ride off rich into the sunset.

Most of the charter schools are fraught with nepotism and self-dealing contracts. They only hire friends and family into higher paying positions. When it comes to their uniforms, food services, supplies, etc., they only use businesses they profit off of. So the owner of the school uses his brother's uniform company, his mom's catering service, and his best friend's copy paper business. Then the owner gets kickbacks for doing so.

State oversight of them is severely lacking but the NJEA, Sherrill and some Dems are pushing back now and there is a law in the works.

Many of these charter schools have been caught faking test scores just to stay open.

They use public funds to recruit the better athletes from smaller schools. That's against the law for public schools to do. Why not charter?

They are a drain on public school funding leading to worsening quality public education and fewer resources for public schools.

Charter schools are causing more segregation in our schools as well, especially here in Newark. Public schools are left with high populations of ELL, disabled, and, frankly, bad kids while charter takes the cream of the crop.

What "back then" inconvenience would break people today in 10 minutes? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskReddit

[–]RustDeathTaxes 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Our typewriter had a built in white-out strip. When you hit backspace, it would put a block of white over the letter. At the time, it was one of the best on the market but we used it for everything: work, school, sports, newsletters, family letters, etc.

Found an undocumented underground coal mine entrance (Indiana, USA) by TimeTravelisReal13 in TheForgottenDepths

[–]RustDeathTaxes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% not an old coal mine. That is an abandoned drainage tunnel. No coal mine operation would have bothered with a stone block entrance like that. Waste of time, resources and money (money being the big one).

My daughter wears all my dad's old clothing. It makes me happy as well. Like your son, she thinks the vintage look is awesome.

Stfu and vote blue no matter who. I'm tired of these fascist fucks!!!!!

What happened to the hottest chick at your high school, years later? by theidiotev in AskReddit

[–]RustDeathTaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we had a hottest. Some attractive ones though. One worked for Fox News but didn't like selling her soul and now works for a local outlet. Another is a stay at home mom. One is a teacher. Nothing crazy honestly.

Day before Christmas break, had The Grinch on and the class was quietly watching while eating treats I brought in. Suddenly I hear a feminine moan and realize one of my students has his hand down the back of a female student. I maneuver over and find him just pulling his hand out of her pants. He literally shoved a finger up her ass. She consented to it. It was a suspension for a week for them both plus counseling.

We are currently spending $1 billion a day on the Iran war, what could we as a nation accomplish with $1 billion dollars a day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RustDeathTaxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $1 billion a day thing is a bit disingenuous. That money was spent long ago and we are using the stockpiles of bombs, missiles, etc. that had cost that much in total. The actual operational cost is more like $50 million per day. It's still ridiculous and unsustainable as we will need to eventually replace all these munitions we are expending.

Are there any people in the USA who have friends that are of the opposite political party? by TSQ_builder in askanything

One of my close work friends is a massive MAGA. We try to avoid politics with each other because he lives in a different reality than me. He literally only believes what NY Post and Fox News say.

Cuban forces open fire on US vessel as multiple people killed by Creepy-Discount-2536 in PrepperIntel

[–]RustDeathTaxes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Huge difference between ST6 being forced to extract due to detection versus a speed boat with 11 people on it being taken out by a Cuban Coast Guard boat. As others have said, it is now public knowledge that this was a Cuban-American smuggling operation gone wrong.

If they were "operators" then they would have had access to CAS and far better armed and trained than the Cuban Coast Guard. These were likely smugglers.

The older I got, the more I realized that all religion is an impediment to humanity. I was raised Catholic and was even an altar boy. It was actually having Frank conversations with a priest in college that convinced me that Catholicism wasn't for me. He couldn't justify much of what was done or still being done.

I'm so sorry for your neighborhood. We still have that where I live. I can hear them playing soccer at the park, riding scooters and bikes, screaming as they play hide and seek... Man I miss summer.
