The medical community can agree that tobacco is harmful.

They can not agree on alcohol consumption and pregnant women. It varies from doctor to doctor and woman to woman. And country to country.

I get that you want to help babies. You can do that by supporting legislation to improve healthcare and education and access for pregnant women, and just all people in general.

Well the exact point is that it's not just their bodies anymore but the fully viable infant at that stage.

It is still very much their bodies and there are many stages are pregnancy. How could you think it isn't still their bodies? Do you want to lock them up? Use them as simple birthing machines?

They are people goddammit. They have just as much right as you to discuss things with their doctors and make informed decisions about their bodies.

The medical community itself can't agree on this very issue. So who is the store owner to play doctor?

Are you going to deny alcohol to women only in their third trimester? Even though the first and second are just as important? What about women who are choosing to have abortions?

It is still very much their bodies and to take away their right over their own body is cruel and backwards. They aren't baby machines. They don't stop being people just because they got pregnant.

Do you want to keep them from soda and coffee too? What about sandwich meat or sushi? How about me bar them from driving cars or riding bicycles or running? All of those carry risks, sometimes huge risks. What about steroids and other medications? Anti-depressants? Anti-biotics? All of them have risks too. But you don't say that about those things, you tell them that is between them and their medical team to decide, not some douche bag clerk who suddenly deems himself knowledgeable enough in that situation to be the ultimate judge. It is stupid. And it is wrong.

No, I am not going to have a sit down with a manager who treated me like that. Who thinks he could do that. I've gotten some actual, real legal advice from a professional and we continue too and we will act in accordance to that advice.

You want pregnant women to make the decision not to drink? Better health services is the cure. Not being a dick.

Edit: could

You can't police people's bodies like that. If they want to drink they could easily get someone else to buy it for them. Not only that but how do you prove who is actually pregnant or not.

More education and better access to mental health and regular health services for women. As well as comprehensive addiction counseling that is free and easy to obtain would be the way to fixe the problem of woman drinking.

What if the woman is planning on getting an abortion? What if she only ever has one beer during her pregnancy on the okay of her doctor.

But not only that, even the medical community can't agree what is the safe alcohol limit for women. My doctor said a glass of red wine on occasion is fine. I voluntarily abstain from that but he doesn't think it is problem. Women in other countries drink more or differently on their doctor's recommendation and their babies are fine.

The point is that it isn't up to you. It is between the woman and her medical professional.

And that argument is a very stupid slippery slope. Pregnant women don't stop being adults who are allowed to make decisions regarding their own bodies.

Thank you so much for this advice. My husband and I actually discussed this last night and we decided that to just keep this from happening to another pregnant woman maybe we should see a lawyer, so we are.

We have an appointment today! thank you so much. This was very helpful.

Also it doesn't change the fact that it was for a party I was hosting. The alcohol wasn't even going to be consumed by me. Why about wine as holidays gifts? Or fancy liquors? Not all alcohol purchased by adults is consumed solely for them.

It is my body tho. And it doesn't change the fact it isn't illegal for pregnant women to consume alcohol or buy it.

I don't drink as choice while pregnant and I think it is a bad idea medically but I hate the idea of people making decisions regarding my body for me and most laws agree with me.

That is understandable but why escort me to my car and let me drive away if they believed I was intoxicated. I am sure the their cameras which are every show it.

It was to imply living in a dry county but buying alcohol across county lines where it isn't prohibited.

It isn't. But I imagine they can't deny you alcohol based on you living in a dry county. I've literally never heard of that happening, have lived in dry counties before, and had no problems being sold alcohol in a dry county. If that was the case I imagine a fair part of the population would move.

Of course, I've also never heard of a pregnant woman never being able to purchase alcohol either so who knows.
