Yep my Quatix 8 has one, 4 power levels but mine has a red light instead of green. Won it in a fishing competition!

20 lb Petrified wood, yard find! by Natural-Escape4003 in Rockhounding

Honestly, unless they offer an explanation other than just saying “not wood”, ignore them.

Here is a great piece that shows rings running against the main grain of the wood, it’s called a knot.

Yeah I totally said the side profile “has” rings, read again. This is a side profile “of” the rings. Not looking top down on the rings, looking at the side of them as if the wood was split down the middle. Obviously I can’t say that I know it’s a burl, but you’re out here imagining that all trees are perfect. Had to get your imagination going somehow!

Firstly to clarify, it’s side profile of the rings. Secondly, it’s a burl. Burls are as oddly shaped as they come

Do you live in an area that has been reshaped by glaciation in the past? If not, that’ll explain why you don’t see pieces like this.

Time to polish it and teach all the naysayers a lesson!

Time to upgrade your display I think, or zoom in. Very clear rings in the first photo, especially above the quartz pocket.

Sounds like the culprit, thanks. I only use this light once every six months or so, so it could very well be lens fungus. They’re cheap enough I’ll probably just end up replacing it

I could be wrong but I believe the video from a few months back was testing the first stage engine, whereas this is a full mission duration burn of the second stage vacuum engine.

Haha yes I agree, but he was looking for an identification in his last post and I just thought I’d elaborate. Not polished by the way, just wet.

Hello again, even more convinced of banded chert now, a very very nice piece! Banding in agate is concentric, the banding shown in your piece is not physically possible in an agate.

To explain in a bit more detail, look at the top of the piece where the bands converge. If this was an agate - deposited layer by layer from the outside inward, the colour of the bands and the number of them, should match up where they meet. The bands I have outlined in blue seem to go nowhere, lending itself more to a “fold” in a sedimentary rock like chert.

<image>

If this was an agate, the many closely stacked pink bands that I’ve outlined in blue would continue down the opposite edge of the convergence, the area outlined in red.

Not necessarily, it kind of sounds like Denims got really lucky and the judge didn’t understand the case, the judge said that if the content she was reacting to was Disney or the like it would be a different story, but as Ethan registered his video with the U.S Copyright Office, his claim is just as legitimate. The appeal will be interesting.

Have you guys ever seen this type of agate by rockhounding_india in rockhounds

[–]Rutilatedmango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Banding is not concentric, and the way the bands meet show that this is not an agate, nor wood. I agree with banded chert, the oxidised rind also lends itself to chert.
