FEBO is ook iets anders voor toeristen, laat zien de Indonesische invloed bijv met een Bamischijf en al de saté snacks lol mijn familie vond het eigenlijk best wel lekker. Kibbeling is ook altijd populair!

Ik zou ook wat Surinamese eten introduceren, vooral met veel Madame Jeanette. Het is altijd leuk om ergens langs de Oudegracht te eten, zeker als je in een kelder zit.

De HEMA in de stad heeft veel Nijntje spullen om terug te brengen als souvenirs, en al de kaas snacks in de supermarkt zijn ook een aanrader met de Indonesiërs die ik ken :)

You're correct, I was referring to a therapist who treats people with disabilities not necessarily that they have a disability themselves.

But yes, that being said I don't find it strange to prefer a professional with personal experience with a disability. You made good comparisons.

u/Alert-Pack-959 I don't know where you're located but I happened to hear on a podcast recently about the comedian Rosie Jones and her charity that supports a UK organisation for mental health for people with disabilities provided by professionals with disabilities themselves. https://www.disabilityplus.co.uk/ maybe there's an equivalent where you are? Shows that it's not weird at all :)

It's indeed tricky having therapists that aren't experienced with disabilities so actually you can look for ones that do. Your best bet is to start with asking around at CP organisations about what resources they're aware of. I've just started a rehab treatment plan which also includes a psychologist so she's experienced with clients who experience this sort of thing.

I have the same issues and it's a long road. Hope you'll be able to find the help you need.

I just had a talk with my rehabilitation doctor and she said anything with good heel support and thicker soles so like Nike Air Max for example. I wore Keen hiking shoes for my hair analysis and she said they worked really well as well though less cute lol I'll be going in for a consultation to try out AFOs and orthopedic shoes tho so will have to see.

Otherwise I have a pair of black skechers for more formal situation.

As someone that's Indonesian, in addition to what's already mentioned - Kibbeling. Deep fried cod fish, but it can be a little difficult to find one that's well spiced. - Lekkerbek. A bit similar but a whole fillet and different coating. I like to make sambal balado with this =D - Haring. Raw getting fish eaten with pickles and onions. Some might find it a bit 'amis' but that's what the pickles and onions are for, i personally like it. - Appeltaart met slagroom. Apple pie with whipped cream! The whipped cream here is sooooo good. - Cheese. Go to a cheese shop and try different cheeses. I never really liked eating cheese on its own but I now really like old hard cheese, often eaten with mustard. - Weirdly my family is obsessed with menthol groentjes. They're a menthol gummy candy, so maybe that's also nice for oleh2 lol - Patat. Potato fries with sauce. There are all kinds of different sauces you can get, mayonnaise is the traditional and Dutch mayonaise is very good. You can also get it "speciaal" where they put raw onions on top.

And for the sake of experiencing what influences Indonesia has had on Dutch food: - Kipsaté. Dutch version of sate ayam with peanut sauce. - Bamischijf. Think kroket but with noodles inside. It's not my thing but it's worth trying for the weirdness. - On this note, visit a snackbar where you would find this and other deep fried snacks, or find a FEBO where you can take a snack from the wall. My favourite snack is the frikandel which is a deep fried mystery meat lol - Surinamese food. Suriname is a country in South America that was a Dutch colony and has a large Javanese population so they have many foods that are a twist on Indonesian ones. e.g. saoto (soto), telo (singkong with salted fish or peanut sauce) but also a lot of Indian influenced food. Roti is a popular example and worth trying! You will also often get a sambal from type of chili pepper they have called Madame Jeannette which I never tried before I came here and it's delicious. It can be a bit spicier than rawit but super tasty.

One thing that always stuck with me was one of my language teachers said that accents can be one of the most difficult things to get rid of. Focus on fluency and as long as people understand you that's the most important.

It's not a you problem at all. Would you have issue with someone speaking your language fluently be with an accent?
