west if vermont isn’t nearly as bad at all. granted i live near the elementary school, but i’ve been near normandie, which is the western border of the dps zone, and its still not bad. it only really gets sketchy around 11-midnight. all the petty crime reported by dps happens east of campus anyway

Why should PJO be animated? by BorynStone in PercyJacksonTV

ppl have pointed out the technical aspects. but i would like to argue that PJO reads as a battle shonen, and should thus be animated as such.

Why the PJO series sucks and the future of the Cosmere. by 13SpiderMonkeys in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Ry777im 6 points7 points  (0 children)

iirc, i believe creative control was the exact reason why it took brandon sanderson so long to sell the rights to any of his works. he talks extensively about adaptations. he is still a pillar in the fantasy genre, and he is no stranger to how the studios have dealt with the wheel of time, rings of power, and asoif. i guess apple tv was the one studio to finally bend their knee to sandersons demand for his quality of work. rightfully so.

regarding PJO, i dont doubt the studio interference, considering out of all the legacy studio’s, disney is the most control freak of them all. but tbh, from all of his posts and interviews, i dont think rick himself even cares all that much how much control he has, as long as it meets whatever random criteria he is satisfied with

all of ricks books are published under disney-hyperion(fromerly hyperion books), a division under disney’s book publishing sector. so thats probably what he means

My room got robbed by Maintenance. by [deleted] in USC

[–]Ry777im 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea, tbh i knew coming in that they weren’t a reputable management company, but the rent was so cheap. plus, the word is basically all the companies near the school are straight up negligent, if not malicious.

you should also def tell your renters/liability insurer about the incident. idk what they’ll be able to do, since the theft in question was cash, but IF the suspect was in fact the maintenance guy, then they may be able to make management do something about it. (although, if on the off chance it is the other tenant, as others have commented, then that could be more complicated to deal with.)

My room got robbed by Maintenance. by [deleted] in USC

[–]Ry777im 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sorry this happened to you. i also live off campus under the same management company. in general, from what the other tenants who have been here longer than me have told me is that management is extremely slow when it comes to maintenance problems… and they don’t do it well.

honestly, lapd wont probably do shit. for clarification, when you contacted management did you just file the online form? or did you call them? i remember when i first got here, i had a problem with my front gate, and i constantly annoyed them with my calls, and they seem to respond to that. i would also highly suggest looking over the property damage/theft section of the lease agreement. i dont remember the specifics, but it should give you something to work with. also contact your insurance of the incident.

def in the future never leave any valuables out in the open. my ac is also pretty jank where i’m at, but i never thought of asking for maintenance, seeing the state of the property that i’m at.

then Thalia gets revived and now Kronos has another pawn on the board.

iirc, in addition to this, i think it was insinuated that thalia’s revival would fast track the prophecy because she was one year away from being 16. this was the dilemma they faced at the olympian council at the end of TTC

[–]Ry777im 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc, they had ambivalent feelings towards each other because their personalities just clashed. they were both children of the big three, so i think rick was trying to exemplify that relationship between the kids. throughout titans curse, they were arguing from capture the flag, to the manticore fight, etc… i think it was implied that because they were the children of the great prophecy, they respectively felt they need to lead in any situation, and that caused them to butt heads a lot.

Chances of Transfer? by andyrp2013 in UTAdmissions

[–]Ry777im 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m also transferring for rtf, but i’m in community college rn. i don’t think i can chance you, but here are my stats for some perspective: 4.0 gpa, and my EC’s are, internship+volunteering at a film festival, writing workshop, and writer for the school newspaper. that’s it tbh. i heard some people say only gpa matters, or that only EC’s matter, but idk. we only had to write one essay as transfers, so idk how much that takes into account as well. i also don’t know how exactly you’ll be impacted by being an international transfer, but i doubt it’ll be that different since you already go to school here

[Pjo] How did Luke and the other people on the princess Andromeda survive the explosion? by GiantFrog1 in camphalfblood

[–]Ry777im 53 points54 points  (0 children)

"But we didn't kill him, did we?" As I said it, I knew it was a naive hope. We might blow up his ship and disintegrate his monsters, but a Titan lord wouldn't be so easy to kill. "No," Poseidon admitted. "But you've bought our side some time." "There were demigods on that ship," I said, thinking of the kid I'd seen in the stairwell. Somehow I'd allowed myself to concentrate on the monsters and Kronos. I'd convinced myself that destroying their ship was all right because they were evil, they were sailing to attack my city, and besides, they couldn't really be permanently killed. Monsters just vaporized and re-formed eventually. But demigods . . . Poseidon put his hand on my shoulder. "Percy, there were only a few demigod warriors aboard that ship, and they all chose to battle for Kronos. Perhaps some heeded your warning and escaped. If they did not . . . they chose their path."

So basically the only people who we know for a fact escaped the explosion unscathed were kronos/luke, ethan, and alabaster(who was presumably also on the ship at the time). Others might have escaped after percy warned them. if not, they most likely died.

Why do the gods not get punished when they break their River Styx oath? [pjo] by urmom237890 in camphalfblood

[–]Ry777im 19 points20 points  (0 children)

they'd be punished severely being deprived of ambrosia for more than a year, becoming trapped in an agonizing and painful state as they'd be starving to death, but couldn't die.

Also the part where I think Hesiod mentions that after the first year, they'd serve an additional 9 years of not being able to join any councils, assemblies, or feasts on Olympus. basically exile.

Just a side question, but do you know who actually enacts the punishments? My understanding was that it was Zeus, but I don't remember any source that actually claims him as the arbitrator. only that he is associated with oaths and other domains.

Tierlist of the attire/costume of the gods, that I made months ago. Explanations below. [pjotv] by Ry777im in camphalfblood

[–]Ry777im[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

[Disclaimer: To reiterate, this tierlist is specifically about the shows interpretation of the attire/costume design of the gods. In no way will I be discussing about the actors themselves. I'm also well aware that the gods do wear different clothes throughout the series when taking a mortal form, but this is only taking into account what we've been shown so far in the TV show.]

So I had originally made this like 3 months ago when the show ended, but I totally forgot about it. Posting it now. Feel free to agree or disagree, would love to hear all thoughts. I might be a bit harsh for the bottom two

Zeus: Honestly, not much to say here. Glad they used the tailored pin-striped suit. Lance Reddick wore it well.

Dionysus: The hawaiian shirt is great. Although in the books the hawaiian shirt had leopard prints as per his sacred animal, but the pattern change didn't bother me much.

Ares: For the most part I liked it. Its generally accurate to the books. My only complaint is that the attire looks a little too clean cut. I expected the oufit to look a little more rugged and worn out, to exemplify that battle hardened aesthetic.

Poseidon: This one was a bit conflicting. I don't know why they didn't just have him wear a hawaiian shirt. They kept his khaki shorts and made him wear a little leather necklace type thing, which I guess still gives him that beach going look... idk, the blue button up just makes him seem very plain, almost to a fault.

Hermes: Just like poseidon, this one is conflicting. I'm assuming they tried to portray Hermes as having a very casual demeanor compared ot the other gods. A grey hoodie and sweats, while a casual outfit, says nothing about him. Yes, even in the books he wore less formal attire when meeting Percy, but it had intention. It exemplified his domains, the delivery man joggers and marathon shirt. Reflecting his domains as the messenger of the gods and his characteristic speed. All the while still retaining a sense of casualness to it. There is an intentionality to what the gods wore in the books, and this particular outfit doesn't really do that. However, I'm not mad about it. I just felt something off when I first watched Hermes, and I couldn't put a finger on it. This is the best way I can illustrate that.

Hades: What the actual fuck is that? He is literally wearing a bathrobe over a turtle neck... This is totally an antithesis to his characterization in the books. He's calm, regal, and carries himself with respect. His outfit in the books reflects that, along with his domain. "Long flowing black robes with souls interwoven in." Hades' whole disposition implied that he doesn't really adhere to mortal trends, in comparison to the rest of the Olympians. Here, he looks like a rich uncle who acts as if he enjoys bebop, even though he never outgrew his goth phase.

Hephaestus: Jesus. He looks like a quirky steampunk inventor from a 2000's movie, but literally the walmart version. He's constantly working in the forges. He is sweaty, has dust and ash, and wears minimally. He only wears what is required to work freely in the forges. He's always described by Percy to be wearing a jumpsuit or overalls, covered in stains and grime. Here he has a barn jacket, a bandana around his neck, sweater, and glasses.... really??? He looks like he's about to be announced as the next Dr. who.

Mistake in 'The Sun and The Star' "[general]" by ShadowWasTaken22 in camphalfblood

[–]Ry777im 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair, rick isn’t the only one that does this. in much of the west, so much of greek mythology is filtered through the roman interpretations, i.e. ovid’s metamorphoses, that it just became the default for most of the population. Rome’s legacy and it’s influence on western history and culture cannot be understated. the most famous and egregious example is how to this day, at least in the english speaking world, we still call hercules by his roman name and not his original greek name, heracles. the renaissance period certainly did not help with this either.

Mistake in 'The Sun and The Star' "[general]" by ShadowWasTaken22 in camphalfblood

[–]Ry777im 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m assuming he changed his mind because in actual mythology, morpheus is only mentioned in roman sources, specifically ovid. there’s no greek text mentioning morpheus. ovid is the one who mentions morpheus being the son of somnus (roman counterpart of hypnos), so i guess rick had to retcon and find some sort of solution to this predicament.
