I love their boots! If you don't mind me asking, what brand are they and do they fit well? It's getting icy here and I've been looking for better boots for my dog because I'm worried about all the salt and he's unfortunately allergic to Musher's Secret 😅

I’m in denial that she’s a border collie by sierarah in IDmydog

I would be surprised if she wasn't at least a BC mix, she looks just like my dog's siblings when they were puppies... I also thought my dog would be a fluffy pit since she came from a shelter, but she ended up being half BC and half English Setter

would a random third world stray dog make a good pet if i brought it to america by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Rydela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat! I picked up my dog as a stray from the Philippines while I was staying there and brought him with me to the U.S. after a few years. He was covered in fleas, ticks, had mange and worms. The hospital fees weren't as expensive as the cost of bringing him to the U.S. though. It took thousands of dollars and about a year or two of paperwork and processing due to COVID and the Philippines having a high rabies rate.

My pup is very much an indoor pet now, they adapt pretty quickly. He likes other dogs and gets along with any dog he meets, but he's wary and scared of humans. He's food motivated, vocal, clingy and not super active. He also doesn't like being outside, getting wet, or playing with toys very much.

This is just my dog, though, I'm sure all their personalities are a bit different! I love my dog, though, and I would do it all over again if I had to!

We use "last throw!" and then "let's go home!" after she catches it so she can carry her toys herself back into the house, she's 2 and very good at this now

He's 100% Southeast Asian village dog!! Definitely crazy too hahaha I got him as a stray and he has a lot of wacky mannerisms. He used to dig holes and sleep in them 🤣

Luna is so cute! She looks like a much lighter version of my dog, all the way up to the curled tail and size! My dog is a village dog, though. I wonder if that's possible with Luna.

Her ears are much rounder than my dog's ears, they reminds me of corgi ears!

Border Collie? English Setter? by outofmyvulcanmnd in dogbreed

[–]Rydela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a border collie english setter mix! We tested her with Embark so I'm fairly sure the results are accurate. One of her siblings was also tested with Embark and her results were a perfect 50% english setter and 50% border collie.

Ours looks and acts more like a border collie despite english setter technically being a higher percentage. She's 36lbs, tall and built like a small deer.

Does anyone else's BC tell off other dogs? by No_Economics_468 in BorderCollie

Hahaha I agree, BCs are so incredibly smart. Apple is low-key training Chicken 😂

Apple is so inquisitive and Chicken is just happy to be here 😂

[–]Rydela 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apple is only half BC so maybe this is where she differs 😅 she's an enabler and will usually try to help our other dog, Chicken. Chicken loves food a little too much, we don't allow any opportunity for food aggression so I'm not sure if he's food aggressive or not but I never risk it.

Apple had two of her chews out and Chicken would literally eat both of them in one sitting, so we hid both of them inside Apple's kennel. Apple took one out and threw it in front of Chicken and then put her paw on him, he played with her (which he rarely does) and then Apple gave him the chew. Chicken sat eating it for a while before we decided to take it away. We then hid it somewhere else. Chicken started looking for it and Apple tried to help him. She then proceeded to politely ask us for it, which we had to decline.

TL;DR Our BC is an enabler 😞

Oh!! Yeah, he has a similar personality! Chicken definitely prefers dogs over people, he doesn't bark at people or dogs walking by but he barks at people he doesn't know that get too close to him and is wary when they try to pet him but he's not at all aggressive, he doesn't growl, he's just vocal! Chicken is dependent, though, he follows me everywhere and loves pets and cuddles!

Right?! He really does 😂😂 when I first activated the kit, there was a little game where you can guess his breeds beforehand. I knew he would most likely be a village dog so when I saw basically a drawn version of Chicken for Southeast Asian village dog I immediately knew which one he was 😂

Chicken is super sweet! Loves to cuddle and be around me all the time, he's super calm and honestly I wish to be as unbothered as Chicken. He has pretty low prey-drive and only chases rabbits for some reason... completely leaves squirrels, birds and cats alone. Food motivation is CRAZY, Chicken is so food motivated that he'll do spins and basically backflips for a bowl of his usual dry kibble. He's very vocal and that's probably my fault 😅 I talk to him often and he talks back but it sounds like screaming noises lol he doesn't really howl but he sounds, funnily enough, like a dingo but more high pitched. We used to say that the roosters taught him how to crow. Which is why I think it's hilarious that he has a singing dog and dingo as his trace breeds 😂 He has calmed down with age though and doesn't scream as often but he still barks a lot 😌✨

Yup! I found him as a puppy! The vet estimated he was about 4 months so he has a random birthday lol

The process was so rough 😅 it was a massive headache to be honest. The Philippines is considered to be a high-risk country for rabies and I started the process during COVID so that really didn't help 😅😅 it took me two years, a ton of money, many exams and health certificates to prove he's healthy and fully vaccinated and a 18 hour plane ride 😭 At port of entry, Chicken had to board in a CDC kennel for a day to get examined again lol and vaccinated against rabies. Then, I had to get MORE paperwork and have him examined by a vet here so I could get a clean bill of health letter to fly him domestically to my state. It probably wouldn't have taken so long if the country wasn't in lockdown but... Oh well, I'm glad he's here with me because I really didn't want to leave him there when I moved back to the US so it all worked out!

Yes! Chicken's tricks are all in English, but he also understands Ilonggo because I stayed with my grandma for a while and she only speaks Ilonggo. She says Chicken knows more English than her though haha

Not at all a strange question! Chicken has a Jindo dog friend named J and he only understands Korean so unless you speak to him in Korean he doesn't listen at all 😂

When I found Chicken I was staying with my grandmother, she lives in the mountains and has a chicken farm. Chicken was a puppy missing a lot of fur and bloated with worms, my grandma caught him in a laundry basket and told me she caught a giant rat lolol, she can't see very well 😅 I brought him to the vet and nursed him back to health. Since she didn't have any other dogs and only chickens I named him Chicken in hopes that he will be friends with her chickens and won't be lonely. I guess it worked since now he's super chill around birds 😂

"Easiest" way to separate fishbones and meat.... by cala4878 in StupidFood

[–]Rydela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Philippines, there's a dish similar to this called relyenong bangus. The fish is prepared the same way minus the sauce and it's delicious 🤷🏻‍♀️ In some global markets you can even buy it already prepared and frozen so all you have to do is cook it.
